What happened after updating to ver 6.3.5

Date 12-30-07 time 12:00 pm
This is my experience about updating from
SageTV version 4.1.3.67
to the current version version SageTV V6.3.5

my computer is a Pentium 4 1.8 GHz with 1.0 GB of ram
on Windows XP Media Edition

I purchased SageTV V6.3.5 and
downloaded it from SageTv.com
I first backed up my SageTV folder and current registry, then proceeded
to install SageTV V6.3.5, the install went fine and then it imported my database.

Then I looked at my list of recording and all where there, I didn't play any
I then looked around all the menus, I then installed the SageMC16x9 Version 6.x Full Install Package and that is when everything went bad, after loading SageMC16x9 Version 6.x Full Install Package the background went from blue to black and the text was white.

I didn't have a cursor that showed what item in the list I was one, so I moved the mouse to Setup Menu and clicked that and it went to the Setup Menu, I then clicked on
Detailed Setup and a circle appeared at the center of the screen, I guess this was to let me know the systen was busy, but it moved a little and the stopped, I waited for 30
minutes and nothing else appeared on the screen, so I pushed the reset button on the front of the computer, and repeated the steps and the same thing happened again.

I looked in the System Event Viewer and nothing was reported as a problem.

So I restored my version of SageTV version 4.1.3.67

I would appreciate any input to solve this.

Thank you

After installing SageMC 6.3.6b full make sure (a) Sage was completely stopped and not just asleep and if you run the service, the service was stopped. (b) Restart Sage after installing Sage 6.3.6b to make sure all the new jar files get loaded.

Also make sure you're running Java 1.6 update 3.

Make sure the you installed SageMC into the correct directory. Additionally, I would also recommend importing the SageMC STV from the default SageTV customization screen directly and than change any options after you have the SageMC running correctly.

That is a big jump from SageTV 4 to SageTV 6 and I am sure that some little thing is causing the issue. I have experienced similar results as the screen that you are seeing and those things mention in the previous postings as well as the information that I stated above usually resolve it.

As a very, very last resort you may want to do a complete reinstallation of Windows and SageTV. I normally don't suggest this, but since it is a 2-3 year old installation of SageTV it sounds like a good idea.

I installed Java 1.6 update 3, then reinstalled SageTV V6.3.5, I didn't install anything else, I did turn off all animations and any 3d effect option I could find and then I left Sage alone to do what ever it was doing till 5 am this morning, I pushed the down arrow on my remote to move the cursor down one line on the main screen and I waited and waited .................., and after a minute I took the mouse and right clicked on the task bar and after a minute choose Task manager, and seen that cpu usage was at 100%confused:
I really want to use the current version of SageTV, it is totally unusable the way it is

And also I won't hose my machine, meaning reinstall windows and all my programs and settings from scratch to get a update for a program to run properly

Thank you

Thumbs up Solved 100% cpu usage

I closed SageTV UI and shut down the SageTV service and I still had 100% cpu usage , so I opend up msconfig and all looked ok in there, I then opened the services list, and looking down the list everything was looking good and the I see Media Center services, well I have Windiws Media Center 2005 but don't use it I use SageTV, I first turned off the Media Center Scheduler service and cpu was still at 100%, then I turned off the Media Center Receiver service and cpu was still at 100%, turned off the Media Center Extender service and cpu dropped to 2%

See the Image where I have the default stv of SageTV 6.3.5 with cpu usage at 7%

I am now in the process of loading the SageMC16x9 Version , I will report back

Thanks

I am now in the process of loading the SageMC16x9 Version , I will report back

The SageMC16x9 Version loaded but I can't get to setup
see image, I install the full package, then the latest build.

The SageMC16x9 Version 6.x Full Install Package (29.15 MB)
was from this link http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=141

and the current build SageMC16x9 for SageTV 6.x (Build v6.3.6b) (1.16 MB) from here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=139

Error: Unknown Internal Screen "Detailed Setup"

Could someone please point me to the correct way to get SageMC16x9 working?

Thanks
Scat

Right-click on the Main Menu screen. You should get the Dynamic Menu options screen. Look for the File button on the left. Go to the right and load another file. Browse the directory until you find the sagemc_menu.xml file. Use that when you use SageMC.

Well after about 45 minutes, I remember that the sagemc_menu.xml file must be inported via a stv and not a add on file stvi, when I did import it is locked up eveything, this is pathitic.

First off I woult think that a install package for SageTv 6.3.5 would check that it needs Java 1.6 update 3 and if the user doesn't have it, HELLO WARN USER, the if the package SageMC16x9 Version 6.x Full Install Package would install all the nessary file it needs, not make the user jump through hoops by LOADING AS A STV AND NOT AS A STVI, my machine is screwed up, what I got was a x-mas gift and it turned into my first day of 2008 as a software load from hell.

To all

I read and read before I downloaded and purchased the current version of SageTV version 6.3.5, and I thought well now is the time, well I have spent the whole day on this and now I am back to square one.

All I want is the current features of Google video and the other video sites, and the ability to fast forward 4x 8x 16 and 32x throught the video I am watching. I just can't believe that the basic install of version 6.3.5 of SageTV doesn't come wih a fast forward option

Hello programmers are you awake in there , some times think some of the basic features of a program should be built in as a standard, but I guess i am wrong

I would think that version 6.3.5 of software would have less problems, but that is just me, Mr. expect to much

ps
I wasted $40.00 on a upgrade that all I will do is DELETE
I did enjoy version 4 of SageTV and I thought ver 6.3.5 as a wow I got to have that version, but i was WRONG
cant we get it together
To many hoops

See you on version SageTV 4.xx

Not quite right. You load SageMC_169.xml as an STV. The sagemc_menu.xml file is the dynamic menu definition file. This is loaded via the Dynamic Menus configuration menu.

SageTV only requires Java v1.4. It does install it if required. SageMC, which is a user developed addon, requires Java v1.6.

To return SageTV to a usable state. Shut down SageTV completely and open you sage.properties file (or sageclient.properties if you are on a client or running in service mode) and look a few lines down where the STV file to be loaded is defined. Right now it probably shows sagemc_menu.xml. Change this to SageTV3.xml and save the file. Start SageTV and you should be back to the default UI.

All you need for this is the default UI and nielm's multispeed continuous FF/REW plugin (imported as an STVi)

Your problems seem to all stem from not understanding what is involved with installing user developed addons. These are all considered 'use at your own risk' and the responsibility is yours to learn what is necessary before installing them. All of the information is out there in the forums and if you have any specific questions, all of the user/developers are very helpful. I would also suggest looking over the SageTV manual to get a handle on the general ideas involved with installing STV's and STVi's.

Aloha,
Mike
