Audio dropping during DVD playback
Hi,
I've got the latest firmware update, running the latest version of Sage and the latest Sage MC. If I play a DVD off of the HDD on my server, it plays fine. If I play a .avi or .mp4 file first and then play the same DVD, I get audio dropouts, the video is still silky smooth, but If I look at my reciever I can see it is not getting a constant signal - I can see it switching from DD5.1 to PCM and back. (I use the optical out and all my files are AC3 DD5.1) . If I play another .avi the avi works fine, but the DVD won't. If I reboot the extender, all is well again. anyone else seen this or have any ideas ? Cheers Mark (DVD's were ripped using DVDshrink)

When you say that you are using the latest version of SageTV, are you referring to v6.3.6, which was released last night? If not, try that version in the beta forum. If that still has an issue, then file a bug report.

Thanks Andy,
I updated to the latest version and just did a quick test. So far so good. I'll post further feedback later. Cheers Mark

I've been seeing the exact same problem for months..even on the older versions of Sage. I saw it before the HD extender on audio coming from my server. Now I see it with my HD extender, but much less than before. I thought it was my receiver. When I turn off the receiver and turn it back on, the problem seems to correct itself..(most times..)
I will upgrade to new Sage release and see what happens. Gary Ellis |

Man, you hit the problem right on the nose. I have been dealing with this audio droppage on my DVDFab HD Decrypter created movies since i hooked up my HD extender, but never before with the sd extender or pc client. I have been playing with all kinds of settings and been wondering if I should try to use a different method of putting my movies on the harddrive. It was getting really aggravating starting my son's disney movies and having to restart the extender each time to stop the skipping. I never made the connection to playing an mp3. I read this post and immediately walked out to the living room to test. Sure enough, the last thing we did was listen to some mp3s while cleaning the kitchen and the movie was skipping audio with the digital surround indicator on the stereo receiver blinking in unison. Restarted extender and problem went away, as always, for the 3 minutes that I tested it (was always an immediate problem if it was going to happen). Played an mp3 for all of 5 seconds, then went back to the movie and bam, instant audio skipping every few seconds.
I will definitely have to try the v6.3.6 if you are thinking it might have fixed your problem. I read the changes and did not really see anything that immediately jumped out suggesting that it was a fix for this particular issue. Am I just not connecting something obvious in the changes? This might be my last big WAF issue with the HD extender and will open the way to purchasing another to replace the SD on the 42" LCD in the bedroom =)

Well,
Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is a Sage bug. (I've been traveling so apologies for the slow reply). Play an .avi or .mp4 and that now works fine, but play an MP3 through the extender, then play a ripped DVD and the output is intermittent, play an Avi with AC3 - no problem. The ONLY way I was able to get rid of this is to reboot the extender - power cycling the receiver has no effect. (The issue is not with the receiver). It doesn't seem to matter what the ripper was (Dvdfab, dvdshrink, etc) it is only playing back DVD files that I find this!. Bug report ? Cheers Mark
