I searched the threads, but couldnt find anything threads that are recent regarding my problem. I have (2) HVR-1600 cards on my system. My video card is a NVideo GeForce 6150 that is integrated on my Asus M2npv-vm motherboard. I dedicated 256MB of RAM to it.
I installed the display drivers from the motherboard CD and then downloaded and installed the latest version of Purevideo. When I look at the MPEG2 Decoder options in Sage, I only see Default, InterVideo NonCSS Decoder for Happaugge, and SageTV MPEG Decoder. I do not see anything for PureVideo. I downloaded and ran the Windows Decoder Checkup Utility and I have NVidia Video Decoder selected as my preferred decoder. When I play back anything in Sage, I see no PureVideo icon. Also, if I try to play a DVD in Windows Media Player, I get a digital copyright error. What I am I doing wrong? This is driving me nuts |

I'd suggest getting your graphics drivers from the Nvidia website and not from the motherboard CD (which may not be up-to-date).
If you run Sage as a service and install PureVideo while the service is running, Sage won't notice that it's been installed until you restart the service. Best practice with PureVideo is to make sure it's the preferred decoder and then set Sage to use the default decoder rather than choosing PureVideo explicitly in Sage. There's a bug in PureVideo that prevents the tray icon from working properly when you choose it explicitly. Also see this thread for issues with decoder merits in version 6.

I fixed it with some help from OttoNP, who is a good friend of mine. It turns out that even though the windows decoder checker showed NVidia as the preferred decoder, it wasnt. I went in WMP and under DVD --> Advanced and it showed HCW AC3 Decoder, which is installed by the WinTV application that came with my hvr-1600 card. Even though I uninstalled the software, it left the decoder installed. I searched for *.ax and found a Happaugge folder in my Windows/System32 directory. I ran the "regsvr32 /u" command on each .ax file in that Happaugge directory until the DVD-->Advanced properties brought up the Nvidia decoder. Only then did SageTV pick up the the NVidia Purevideo. Unfortunately, SD cable looks worse with PureVideo (very blocky with standard def video with motion)than it did with the other decoder. HD content is about the same, but the de-interlacing is smoother.

In SageTV, select Default and NOT any of the NVidia Decoders in the MPEG2 decoder menu. When you run the Decoder Checker Program from Micrososft, how many decoders does it list and what are they called? What tuner cards are you using? |

Direct Show Filter Manager really makes things easy here...you can see what decoder is preferred by color, change merits, register/unregister, and change options. Reboot and Windows will pick up the new merits.

Try unregistering the SageTV video decoder with the following command: regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\stvm2vd.ax"

Unregistering is the brute-force solution of last resort and should be used only if you never want to use the Sage decoder at all. A better solution is to download a filter manager as suggested above and adjust the filter merits manually.
