New OCUR out Q2-08

Apparently, there's a new OCUR coming out next quarter form Ceton Corp:
http://www.cetoncorp.com/ProductsVista.php
Lot's of info from AVS Forum:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=934453

They're going to sell it stand-alone and it can do up to 6-encodes at once. I love Sage, but at the moment I can't get any HD stations with it. Firewire is all 5C'd and R5000s don't look like they work with SA boxes.

Right now, 50% of what we watch is on an HD channel, so it's starting to get annoying that I can't record in HD. I would really, really hate to move to Vista, just to get HD capabilities, but the WAF may force me to. I don't approve of DRM, but I don't see how Sage can avoid implementation in the near future.

No. I only got 1/2 way into that thread before deciding it was dead. Guess I should have kept reading, huh? The HD encoder will, I hope, be a great as it sounds. I give them a year before some content provider sues them for it, though. Not that I'm cynical or anything, mind you.

I might have given you the wrong thread. Check the Sage @ CES thread. Same message though. Hauppauge will have a solution end of Q1.

You should realize HD component capture boards have been around a long time. Just not in this price range with H.264 encoding...

Given the use cases for this device it seems unlikely content providers would be able to spin it as anything but overwhelmingly fair use, in the same fashion as video-taping TV for personal enjoyment.

Oh, give the content providers a little credit. They can spin this as the biggest threat to their entire Industry, Copyright, the American Way of Life, and our Liberty and keep a straight face the whole time.

They would have to make it illegal before they can do anything first, and that's a fight they just might not be able to handle.

What fight? They just slip it in another bill when no one is looking and get it passed before anyone knows what has happened. Its happened plenty of times before.
