Pathetic QAM in Somerville MA (Comcast)

I live in Somerville, MA and have Comcast. I recently picked up an HVR1600 HD tuner and hooked it to my Cable using the ATSC port. I then used the Hauppauge software to "autoscan" the CLEARQAM channels. I tried both "by country" and "all". The second one took 8 hours to complete.

Anyway when it's all done, I get around 8 channels and they are all pretty much public access like school closings, two are the SAME international channel. I thought usually you can get HD versions of the major channels AND some others based on how stingy your cable company is. I get 1 or 2 tops.

Anyone else have Somerville Comcast. I'm at work so I don't have the list with me. Is there something I'm missing trying to tune?

I use SAGE currently on analog cable and I want to upgrade to digital once I get this test working. I assume Sage can't find more channels than the native Hauppauge app can. Please let me know if I'm wrong there.

Did you run the test at

http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/hdhomerun/channels

before purchasing your HdHomeRun?

Also, do the local broadcast stations in your area have an HD offering?

That is a great link. Unfortunately, it looks like my selection of QAM channels is terrible (zip=02143).

I was hoping to set up a sage super-server with OTA-HD for some content and QAM for the rest. Now it looks like I'll need some other way to get the rest of the channels in a digital way.

Does Comcast offer HD in your area yet?

Where I live (suburb of Detroit), it has only been available for about 3 weeks, even though most Comcast customers have been able to get it for years.

I would expect you to be able to at least get whatever local HD channels (ie ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) Comcast offers in your area via clear QAM.

How does one decipher the results of this www query? Using the zip that the OP posted, 02143, there appear to be a bunch of HD channels (and all the broadcast ones, starting at channel 82 and higher).

However, the OP says he isn't able to tune them. So how does the www site help to determine what you will or won't be able to get?

Matt

The OP has a HVR1600, not a homerun. There have been many posts about the HVR1600 having trouble picking up clear QAM channels.
