SageTV for Firewire capture?
Hi all,
I'm looking to build my first HTPC and I've read that SageTV is one of the few platforms that supports Firewire capture. If I get this set up, would I be able to capture video from my STB via firewire, as well as change channels, or would I need an IR blaster? Also, with Firewire capture, would I have access to all of my channels? |

Check out the above mentioned thread, I followed the directions posted in there and it works great.
To answer your question concisely. Yes you can record and change channels via firewire. That's the only way I record my shows. However, you should make note that some systems encrypt the the information coming out of the firewire port, and this makes them impossible to record. <Knock on wood> so far my system does not use any encryption, and I can record all the channels that my STB can tune. Unfortunately, the only way to know if your system is completely compatible or not is to ask someone in your area or just try and see. |
