mce remote receiver, harmony 880, blasters, and sage
i used to use an old serial IR receiver (the old fastmedia one) with my harmony (and lots of other universals) and girder but my new htpc doesn't have a serial port. so i bought an mce remote/receiver/blaster combo, and set it up using the built in support. it works, sort of, but i'm used to having more control over everything with girder and i can't seem to add extra buttons to the harmony as the built in remote support doesn't seem to expect them, so the receiver just ignores them?
i've done a bunch of reading but i confess, i'm confused. i still have my old .gml files - is there a way to set everything up so that the usb mce receiver simply replaces the fastmedia one (so that i get back into familiar territory) and also maintain the ability to use the blasters? i've never used blasters before but i may start now that i have some. i'm also leaning towards girder because i have a few external programs that i'd like to be able to perform some simple manipulations in. i saw this thread (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10602) but it's almost 3 years old and there's talk about it being unreliable... is there a better way? what is the best way to use a mce receiver and a harmony remote with sage?

Sage doesn't natively support the MCE blasters. If you're leaning towards Girder then lean all the way. That will get you there. There is also the option to use Eventghost or StephaneM's excellent LM Remote Keymap software. Any one of those 3 options should get you where you want to go. You can set up your Harmony to be an MCE Remote. Make sure to assign the rest of the buttons you want to use through the Harmony application. I use an 880 in the front room with the HD Extender and a 520 in the study with an MVP.

yeah, ive got the harmony programmed as the mce remote, but several of the buttons do nothing, and others dont do what i want them to. the harmony sw is a total pain imo, but i need to play with it some more i think.
so using these modified mce receiver drivers, i can 'read' the receiver in girder and then i'm off to the races i guess? thoughts on HIP?
