HVR 1600 new drivers have made huge difference

Hi all,
I stumbled on these new HVR 1600 drivers from Hauppauges ftp site and have been using them for a few days and have seen dramatic improvement in both SD and QAM recordings. I can watch QAM channels live with no stutter or pixelation and am hoping my green blob in the upper part of screen for SD recordings is now gone. I am interested to see if anyone else is as brave as I, and would like to see how the driver update works for you. I just went to below site, unzipped and ran install\HcwDriverInstall

ftp://wtv:Support07!@www.hauppauge.c...ql_signed).zip

Hope this helps all those people like me who were very disappointed in HVR 1600 up til now.

Jeff

I should add I am on Sage 6.3.9RC.

Thanks for posting. What driver version did you have before this one? I'm running the 1.62.25129.0 dtd 5/9/07.

I am running Vista x64 and have 4gb of ram. The 1600 had lots of issues...driver 1.62.25330.0 is out on the net...and fixed all my x64/4gb issues. The driver posted in this thread seems to be even newer...but I am not sure if it is x64 compatible. Just fyi...

I tried it (Vista 32) and it has helped me. Prior to this, I had one nagging issue on SD only. A few channels had static like noise issues, but not all. It was mostly on SciFi and SpikeTV and none of the others and not detectable when viewing those channels on the TV directly.

This new driver has fixed that. I was using the 5/9/07 1.62.25129.0 on my two 1600's and 1.19.25159.0 6/8/07 on my 1800.

This download updated the 1600's to 1.62.26028 1/28/08 AND it updated my 1800 to 1.25.25271.0 9/28/07. Based on test recordings it's working great and has fixed my sound problem. The HD side was and still is rock solid. I'll watch and do further testing and post if anything arises.

I am currently not using QAM, just OTA digital broadcast for HD. Should I expect any changes after installing this new driver? It would be nice if there were release notes or something that indicated what fixes were included.

By the way, for gibsonpa who was asking about Vista 64 support. The download includes two folders, INSTALL and INSTALL64.

New Hauppauge Software mpeg decoder

I also noticed a new mpeg decoder dated 2/19. It's in the same directory on the FTP site:

ftp://www.hauppauge.com/Support/HVR1600/

The file name is: hcwsmd07_26021.exe

No guarantees when it comes to Hauppauge drivers I'd recommend that if you have a driver that works, don't mess with it. I updated just try and fix a nagging issue plus I kept copies of all the old drivers I had previously so I could downgrade if necessary. This one fixed my issue. Several previous ones did not.

I don't do QAM either and like you do OTA HD. My HD is rock solid before and after the driver change.

Update: After a lot of recordings and tests over several days, I can report this new driver has indeed fixed the sound/static issues I was having on SD on both my HVR-1600 and HVR-1800. I'll be sticking with this driver for a long time. I'm running 6.3.9RC on Vista 32.

It brings my versions up to: HVR-1600 to 1.62.26028 dtd 1/28/08 and HVR-1800 to 1.25.25271.0 dtd 9/28/07.

Thanks again lbrandolo!

I installed it on XP SP2 this weekend and it seems to be doing great. My ATSC and QAM signal has come up a bunch (seems the ATSC was better than QAM though). I'll probably revert back to all ATSC at this point, I'm not gaining much from QAM in Vegas anyway, and it's harder to keep a decent signal.

what a difference a driver makes

Wow what a difference a driver makes.

Only just found these new hvr1600 drivers and suddenly everything works.

A mere 2.5ghz p4, w 1GB ram, 7600GS, XP SP2, with latest sage beta and these latest drivers and suddenly HD works.

I can't wait to do a rescan to see if I can find more qam channels with new hauppage drivers.
