Waits a week to record LOST

Anybody have an idea why sage would wait a week to record the new episode of LOST? I have LOST as the #1 on my favorites list, and it's set to record new and old episodes, but when it comes time to record the newest episode it doesn't record it, and when I go in to see it's schedualed recordings list, it's set to record it next week right before the newer episode.

The original airing probably was overwritten by another favorite. If LOST had another airing of the episode it would not be a conflict. You would get both recordings but not as timely as you would like.

Yeah, this is one of those times where Sage is being to smart for its own good. They need to add a special option that you can set for a favorite to tell Sage to record earliest instance possible, regardless of conflicts.

This would really help for sports. I want to record the Devils' game the first time it's on, not at 2:00 a.m. the following morning.

While an option would be nice, I can think of lots of other improvements I would like to see first. If a user considers a show so important that it must be recorded on the first airing, they should make it a manual recording. It is very easy to locate future airings of a show and make it a manual record. This would also force sage to display a conflict if another favorite is on at the same time. The user can then decide if they are willing to lose the second favorite or wait for a second airing or even a rerun of the first favorite.

The whole point of favorites is you set it and forget it, not having to go back and edit each show you want to a manual recording.

I have a favorite for NBA games. During a season, there are hundreds of games being recorded. It's a real pain to keep editing it and making it a manual recording every week. And I have a 45min padding on the favorite, but when you make it a manual recording, it removes the padding, so you have to re-enter padding for each show again.

Furthermore, none of the games has a First Airing flag in the guide, so there's no way Sage knows what a first airing and what's a rerun. So there needs an option in the Favorite to tell it to record the first airing, overriding all other factors.

As the way it works now, SageTV is not great for sports recordings.

You are correct, I have been expecting too little of Sage! While sage is adding switches to make the favorite logic work correctly, I want a switch that requires the favorite to have a unique ID. I am so tired of the second rate stations that use the generic SHXXXX type of ID. If I make a favorite to require a unique ID (EPXXXx) it will ignore the SHXXX type shows. Just the other day I had to mark about 20 or 30 shows as don't like because of the lack of a unique ID.

I recommend you get the Sage Webserver working. Makes managing issues like this a breeze - much faster than using the normal UI. Either that or add more tuners
