need somebody smart to write an applet, please
I need somebody smart to write an applet (or whatever its called) to attach to a command using the dynamic menu.
the fact that DVD's do not play normally with a one click button is driving my WAF down...so, I need to make it work normally...(Almost) I think of this like a macro for the remote control..I can either press a series of 5 buttons, or program them in serial to one button...That's what I need programmed into 1 click on a Sage menu. I want to insert a DVD, then press one button (play DVD) and this is what happens 1) Executes the Sage command to refresh imported directories (thus allowing the DVD to show up in the imported videos folder - assuming DVD drive is set up as import directory) 2) Show result of refresh import command and wait until import refresh is complete (pressing ok here is acceptable - but not preferred) 3) Go to imported videos section and display either "folders" or "DVD's" thus allowing me to click on the blank DVD folder and the DVD plays.... Please help... Thanks, Gary Ellis Last edited by garyellis; 03-22-2008 at 07:43 AM. |

I'm a bit confused about why you want to make it so complicated. Is there a specific reason for this? Isn't it more practical to just remap a remote button to play your DVD using Girder or EventGhost (free)? That seems so much easier to me. But maybe I'm missing the point.

I like easy....
Honestly, I have never heard of either of those.. I'll look at them and see if I can figure it out.. Honestly just trying to have my wife press as few of buttons as possible to make a DVD play. I hate having to explain each time why it can't play and that you have to import it first and then....etc... Thanks for the feedback Gary Ellis |

Huh?
Is there some reason that the "Play DVD" command built in to Sage doesn't work for you? Why would you add it as an imported video? That seems like an aweful lot of extra work... |

Why not use the play dvd button in sagetv? Maybe I am missing something here.. SageTV can play DVDs locally on a client or server plus remotely on an extender.

I don't believe that Sage plays DVD's (the kind I rent from Blockbuster) on an extender, by pressing the play DVD button.
That is what I am trying to do...sorry, I didn't explain that part : ) Gary Ellis |

He's sharing out his DVD drive so that he can play actual DVDs on the extneders. Hence all the need to refresf the library to make it be seen. Maybe someone could do a batch file and add it thru dynamic menus that when you choose Play DVD it runs a batch file that also refreshs the media.

I've never played a dvd through an extender, but on a client or the server you don't have to share it out. According to the manual:
Quote:
It will always be d:\video_ts assuming d is the optical drive. B

Gplasky, you got it exactly right.....
And BC, you are right that is the steps... It is an encyrpted DVD and I am trying to play it through the HD extender, not a client, nor the server. So, when I put it in the D: drive...I have to "refresh import", wait for it to tell me that it is refresshed, then make my way over to the imported video section and find the "blank" DVD and press select and watch video.. That's too many steps to explain to my wife... I just want all those step automated into one command... Thus, like a macro behind a Sage menu item using dynamic menus. Thanks all for the help, Gary |
