Can't (reliably) watch HDHomerun live tv on Sage linux

I can't reliably watch live shows on the HD homerun. Tuning to a live channel usually results in a "no signal" screen. The log file looks like this:

Code:
Tue 3/25 23:02:47.692 VF processing job VFJob[LoadMF r=0.0 t=0 file=MediaFile[id=12 FA[A[12,0,"No Data",0@0325.22:17,5256000]] host=sagetv.... encodedBy=HDHomeRun 10112174 Tuner 1 Digital TV Tuner format=MPEG2-PS 0:00:00 15192 kbps [#0 Video[MPEG2-Video 29.97003 fps 528x480 4:3 interlaced]#1 Audio[AC3 48000 Hz 2 channels MAIN idx=1 id=bd-81010002]] /var/media/tv/HDHomeRun10112174Tuner1DigitalTVTuner-0.mpgbuf, Seg0[Tue 3/25 23:02:46.113-Wed 12/31 18:00:00.000]] ifn=null] nPlayin=false
Tue 3/25 23:02:47.692 VF network encoder playback detected: false
Tue 3/25 23:02:47.692 VF waiting for data to appear in new file...liveWait=421
Tue 3/25 23:02:47.692 VF thread is now waiting for 0:00:00.200
However, the resulting recording is playable in sage without difficulty. Scheduled recordings also play fine (though not while they're recording).

The really odd thing is that sometimes, after restarting the sage server, watching live tv will work fine. Sometimes it doesn't help. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it works or doesn't. If watching live TV doesn't work, previewing in channel setup doesn't either.

I'm running the v6.3.10 client and server on an OpenSuse 10.3 box with java 1.6.0_04-b12. The HDHR is connected to my cable feed (Comcast Elmhurst/Maywood IL). To set it, I selected the local digital broadcast schedule, scanned for channels, then manually mapped the found QAM channels to the right stations.

Any ideas?

Doesn't it take Windows & BDA drivers to run a HD Homerun? I don't think they have the Linux version out for Sage.

The BDA drivers are for windows only, but the HDHR works with linux, and with sage on linux, sorta (as shown by the fact that sage records from it, and can occasionally play live tv with it).

Interesting. I just posted in the Hardware forum about a similar issue I'm having with the BDA implmenetation on Windows. In my case, it only seems to be happening on "Live" watching as well. The sequence is the HDHR is tuned correctly, the mpg file is started (0K size), the "No Signal" screen is thrown up and everything just gets stuck at that point. The mpg file never grows so no continued recording is happening. Yours appears to keep going. If I try tuning again, it all works so it's intermittent. I guess I'll have to start the debug log file and see what it says.

I NEVER had this issue when using the non-BDA method BTW.

It sounds similar. The difference between the problems, as you noted, is that here the data is being written to the mpgbuf file (and can be played back from the "partial recordings" menu via the dynamic menus mod) but sage doesn't think this is happening. Usually.

This issue and the lousy XV picture quality on linux have driven me to buy a xp and sage windows licenses, but even after spending the money I'd rather not use them.

All I know and according to the developer jafa they were working on the linux version of HDHR for Sage. I never saw them annouce anything so I'm guessing there's something else they need to do to get ti to work properly.

phelme-the only time I had that issue on Windows is when I was using the incorrect format for remapping. I was using all 3 numbers where it sayd you only need the first number. And you're also not suppose to scan in Sage. (That's how I ended up with the wrong numbers I think.)

There had always been talk of that but I never saw that being available. Everything on the HD Homerun site for SageTV references the Windows version. Including the installation instructions. Unfortunately jafa keeps the forum pretty clean and none of those older posts can be found. (My bolding below)

I'd be glad to be wrong and you may be able to get it to work but I don't see that support officially anywhere on the site.

SageTV says it is there. If having issues, I would file a support ticket.

recordings seem to happen fine unless I try to watch one while it is recording, and or watch live tv while another is recording, live tv most of the time is ok

What kind of NIC do you have? Is it sharing interrupts with your disk controller or graphics card?

As a start, send the output from 'cat /proc/interrupts' and
'ethtool eth0' 'ethtool -i eth0' and 'ethtool -S eth0'. Replace eth0 with the appropriate NIC name.

Thanks Drew I will test it when I get home - my current setup is -

Tyan s3870 (built in graphics) I don't watch anything on the server
12 gigs ECC
2x 850HE opteron's (2.4ghz single core)
1x 7200rpm Seagate 16mb cache 500gig SATA drive

Using built in gig networking on one port HT1000 chipset

network goes to Gigabit switch, which HD100, hdhomerun, and server are plugged into

Centos 32bit

Unfortuantely running ext3 right now, as centos regular doesn't have xfs as an option by defualt install (will probably do centos plus in the future)

I watch everything via the HD100 extender

Nice setup.

If I remember right, that board has 2 ethernet NICs onboard. Due you use just one, or both? Have you tried using both NICs, and dedicating one of the NICs to the HDHR?

Well, I ended up wiping and trying a bunch of different os -

Also got a intel 1000MT nic, just to eliminate it being a nic issue - have heard issues about the onboard nics on the motherboard, I disabled them in bios.

I was running Centos32bit, but it wasn't on XFS so I want to eliminate that also

so far -

Ubuntu 64bit (had install problems)
OpenSuse (3 downloads later and bad MD5 checksums)
Debian 64bit (couldn't get the java to play nice, almost worked)
And now going back to Debian 32bit just for a "baseline"

I'm not in a rush, so was just mainly trying to figure out things on my own first to make sure it wasn't something idiotic I was doing (which is highly possible) -

Will probably be emailing support today.

I got it running fairly well under debian 32, with a few bugs, and still see that error. I can't watch something that is recording at the same time which I thought was odd.

[QUOTE=Zervun;280346]
OpenSuse (3 downloads later and bad MD5 checksums)

The HT1000 sata controller has data corruption issues in some OSes, try a plug in card with a different chipset if you see any evidence at all of corruption like this.

I hope I don't have these issues. I am currently running MythTV but am thinking of switching to SageTV for the extenders.

Right now, everything seems to work fine between MythTV and the HDHR.

The WAF would be out the window if it doesn't work like it has been
