Burned a Sage Recording....funny line down the side

I just got a DVD burner today. I used ULEAD to burn 4 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm to a DVD. I believe the original quality on these was 2GB/hr.

Anyway, it looks good except there is a weird vertical line on the right hand side....and a thinner vertical line of the left hand side.

See attached screenshot.

Any ideas?

Was it one of the DVD settings or just a straight 2 GB/hr? I have burnt at all three DVD settings (3.25, 2.5, and 1.8 GB/hr) without seeing anything funny. I used MPEG2VCR to edit the files and ULEAD MovieMaker 2 to burn them to DVD. I have also burnt them "raw" (i.e., unedited by MPEG2VCR), as well.

Unfortunately, it was the standard 2GB/hr. I just recently read a tip that I should be recording at 2.5GB/hr to maintain proper DVD format.

Doesn't ULEAD re-encode the 2GB to 2.5GB???

If you run it through ULEAD Studio (or whatever their editor is called) you could probably have it re-encoded. When I tried using their editor it took forever to re-encode and the resulting file was larger. It may be worth it to you to have ULEAD convert them all to the standard DVD format, but it will take a while (a looooooong while).

Try some experimentation, first, to make sure you have the settings correct.

OK....more info!

I have tried playing my 2GB and 2.5GB files in Windows Media Player, and everything that was recorded from a premium channel (regardless of the encoding quality) has those funny bars in WMP. However it doesn't have the bars when viewing in SageTV Client.

Things recorded from non-premium channels do NOT have the bars.

So then when you are playing back recordings with SageTV or SageTVClient, does it automatically push this information off the screen? Because I dont see these bars in Sage.

Simple answer, yes.
Most of Sage's aspect ratio mode defaults are between 5% and 10% zoomed to mimic the "natural" behavior of a TV. You can change these settings in Setup>Detailed Setup>Multimedia tab. Each aspect ratio modes has it's own horizontal/vertical zoom percent settings. You can see this by selecting different aspect modes and watching the zoom settings change.
