Ordering a USB-UIRT with a 56Khz sensor is too difficult.

All I want to do is order an USB-UIRT with the extra 56Khz sensor. I wanted to do it today.

I cannot tell if the one for sale by sage includes the extra 56 Khz sensor. So, I went to the USB-UIRT website to order it. After divulging all my credit card and personal information for a stinking paypal account, I get a message telling me that they can charge me $1.95 and then I can look at my next months statement and get a 4 digit code that paypal will need before I can complete the order. This is Horse#$%^. I've given out all the personal information and I have to wait for a month before I can complete a $63 order!?!?!? I want my personal information back from paypal and I want to order the thing this lifetime.

Now that I've vented. Is there a way I can order one of these today?

Rob they do this for very good reson (security) to keep hacker from getting your personal information plus make sure you are who you say you are, I know it real pain but it better be safe the sorry.
4 digit code thing need be done first if you have acc to CC or Bank account on the web look it up.

Hi SHS,

I appreciate your reply and I appreciate all your contribution to this forum and to my own learning.

I understand the security thing. But it is frusterating having a $120 PVR 250 and a $100 Dish 301 collecting dust for the next month because I cannot get the $63 USB-UIRT to control it. It is a cost (time and trouble) that I am having to pay because there are theives in the world.

I've ordered 2 pvr 250's, sagetv, 2 client versions and the actisys from Frey's. Each order was paid with a credit card on the same day as the order.

In the last year I've spent probably $2,000 to $3000 at newegg.com and each order goes through on the same day.

Now I have a $63 order that is stuck.......

I guess I'm now off to see if I can access my account information on the web (more lost time because there are theives in the world).

Again SHS, I'm not venting at you. I always appreciate your input. I'm just venting.......

This might work for you. If you have a ATM card with VISA/MC on it DEBIT/CREDIT or CHECK CARD and have access to your bank account on line you can set this up in paypal. Then you should be able to check your bank account online the next morning and get the codes you need to activate your paypal account.

BTW, you might be able to do the same thing with a normal credit card. Just see if you have access to the information online. Worst case call your CC merchant/vendor and tell ask them to give you the information for the transaction so you can activate your paypal account. Most will work with you on this.

Aren't you stuck anyway because they're not available until the end of the month?

You right it will be another day or two until the USB-UIRT is supposed to be available (the web site says the 29th), but its another three weeks before my next credit card statement is due in the mail.

I've tried accessing the account on the web, but I do not have the proper pin number set up for this account.

I am going to try calling my credit card company (as Carlos suggested) and see if the transaction has hit and if they will give the information to me.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Rob

No one has yet to answer if Frey is selling the unit with the 56Khz sensor. Any idea?

I dont' know if they are of not. Last Monday I finally got mine from the UIRT people. It took me a month, but I've got it now. The paypal thing took nearly two weeks before the four digit code was on my account.

Anyway, now I'm very happy with it. It is controlling two dishpro 301 receivers and it has not missed a channel change yet (the actisys missed probably 1 in 10 channel changes).

Good Luck.

We do not sell the unit with the 56khz sensor. You will have to purchase that directly from www.usbuirt.com.

Question Do you really need 56KHz??

I'm not sure you need the 56K version...If your Dish box is in range (it's RF remember), trying to use its remote to control your SageTV Box will ALSO be talking to the Dish STB...not so good.

The regular USB-UIRT transmits just fine to the Dish STB (I've got a 4900) once you've taught Sage the codes. The "learning" IR receiver - which is different than the normal IR receiver in the UIRT - is broadband-enough to see the Dish's remote, even though it's up at 56KHz. Also, there's a UIRT.ir file that's been posted over in another thread that works great, too, so you don't even have to learn it:

Dad nabbit - i dun promised myself that I wern't gunna say "learn it".....

I have a Scientific Atlantic 2200 Explorer. Does anyone know if this unit requires the 56Khz sensor or a resource to find out?

Sorry to jump in with such a question... but for future reference I would like to know what the 56K sensor is for? Is it just that certain remotes use a different frequency? Are these older remotes, ones from certain brands, what? Have I simply missed a comment on this topic?

If someone could give a quick answer, I can let you get back to your regularly scheduled postings...

Thanks!

- Andy

There are certain remotes that do operate in that range. I think Bang & Olufsen is one. Not sure of others. (Well not sure of Bang either) I have the 56khz just to make sure some remote I may get in the future uses that range. Playing it safe.

I was thinking of ordering one of these and would probably go with the 56Khz option. But before I do is there any reason besides price why the 56Khz could be the "wrong" choice?

Nope-not that I know of. Same as the regular model except for the wider frequency band. And there might be set top boxes out there that you might want to control that may use the higher band.

You can learn the codes for and control 56khz STB's without the 56khz option on your USB-UIRT

The only thing you can't do is use the remote that came with such a STB as your "driving" remote.

I think Ren said this above but it might not have gotten through.

To quote Jon Rhees:

Quote:
To best explain this, it is first best to understand that the USB-UIRT has basically 3 tasks:

1. TRANSMIT IR -- this task has no relevance the 56K IR sensor. ALL USB-UIRT models can transmit from DC (0 KHz) up to 64KHz.

2. LEARN IR -- this task is used when you are 'learning' an IR stream so that it can be re-transmitted later. The USB-UIRT uses a special short-range wide-band sensor for this -- so once again the 56KHz sensor has no relevance.

3. LISTEN TO IR -- this task is the default operation the USB-UIRT performs when no learning or transmitting. When the USB-UIRT 'sees' an IR code via one of its long-range sensors, it generates a Girder event which the user can program to trigger responses, activate applications, etc. etc. The optional 56K sensor allows the USB-UIRT to 'see' remote controls that emit IR using 56KHz carriers. Among those remotes are several Satellite boxes, including Sky Digital, Echostar, Dish Network, Bell EVU.

Hope this helps,

Jon
So you are right salsbst. It only has to do with the remote you choose to use with the USB-UIRT.

Gerry
