SageTV Service Crashed Unexpectedly

Hi Everyone,

Just recently I began having problems where my SageTV Service will crash and then restart. The Event ID is 7031 and the message is "The SageTV service terminated unexpectedly" Before in my system Logs, it only happened twice since 4/10, but as of yesterday (4/29) it happened 4 times. I didn't change anything yesterday so I am kind of at a loss as to what it could be.

Last week, I did enable the second NIC on my Motherboard and directly connect my HDHR to it, and this weekend I re-did my network with a new router and switch connected to my other NIC and my HD Extender and PS3 downstairs. These are the only physical changes I have made but they were a week before my Service crashes so I'm not sure they are related.

If anyone has any thoughts I would really appreciate and input.

Regards,
Brian

Why are you using two NICs in your server? High availability is the only reason why I would do that and I haven't see a need to do that in a home network. Just curious b/s I like to keep things as simple as possible.

Do you really need to run sageTV as a service? Assuming you are running Win2k/XP/Vista, you can setup the system to auto-logon and then just put a Sage shortcut in your startup folder. The difference is that process run as services run in a different environment as processes started from the Win console.

what about using the HD extender, doesn't sage need to run as a service to be seen by the extender?

I have been having a similar problem the last few days. The service will crash, I think it is happening when my HD Homerun gets no signal for a channel Sage wants to record. I don't know why all the sudden I am having issues with channels that have previously been fine. Probably my friendly Cable company trying to make me like them even less....

No, SageTV needs to have the SageTV Server enabled (so clients can connect to the server) and the Media Extender and Placeshifter Server nabled (so those remote clients can connect).

Service mode just controls whether the SageTV core runs as a service or whether the core runs as part of the UI.

BTW: you could check the debug log to see if any errors are in the log, and/or contact SageTV support.
