Red face SageTV V6.4.2 Beta may have fixed my 100% CPU issue

SageTV has been nearly unusable for me due to almost continuous 100% CPU consumption since I filed a bug report around August of 2007. After upgrading to the 6.4.2 beta over the weekend it finally (I'm keeping my fingers crossed) seems to be behaving itself.

BTW I just finally caved and brought home my cable company's DVR after my wife (nay SageTV) missed one more American Idol. So now I have DVR backup!

I've always suspected that SageTV was going of the deep end trying to figure out my ridiculous number of favorites. So I'm assuming that this is the fix that finally resolved my issue.

6. Fixed bug in Scheduler where it would loop for an extremely long time trying to resolve certain scheduling conflicts that may not be resolvable. There's now a check for this and it'll terminate that search after 30 seconds. This is controlled by the folowing property: scheduler/max_time_for_smtsp

I may never upgrade again. My father always said, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke." I guess I'm getting old (or tired) enough to appreciate such wisdom.

I haven't really paid attention recently but it is certainly at least 50. (Is that ridiculous?) Granted some of them are old and for shows that are off the air.

One of my issues is that I really need some type of black list. Ideally I would like to use science and nature as category favorites and then black list the stuff I don't care about/like as it shows up. Before you go there, intelligent recording never seem to work out very well. I've tried it. I don't think there is enough fidelity in the available metadata to be able to do a good job for me. Yes, I'm too picky but at least I can admit it.

BTW everything is still working fine for me! All 4 tuners are happily recording away while I'm watching and still the CPU never tops 50%. Unfortunately now I'm going to have to decide if I should stick with a beta or upgrade when they pick an official RC.

You are forbidden to use the word "ridiculous" for a month.

That's no where close to being ridiculous, I think you need to have at least 200 favs to be considered ridiculous. I have about 75 and I never thought of it as anywhere near ridiculous. With SageTV's ability to limit each Favorite to specified channels, it is easy to create numerous Favorites. I have several Favs for the same show, that way I can adjust the priority depending on what channels it is aired on.

Since I have 801, I think you need at least a 1000 to be ridiculous.

Eek!

I only have about 1000 total recordings at the moment and that takes up over 2TB of storage. I would have to have a server farm in the garage to maintain over 800 favorites.

Yes, I really do have that many. But a lot of them are obsolete. I do try to remove them when I know that I have watched all of the shows. Every now and then I am surprised by seeing a favorite recorded that I thought I had watched all of the shows. I have been a Sage user for over 4 years. For a while I had 2 homes, So I had some favorites that were only available at one of the two locations.

I do not archive all of my favorites, I save very few programs. I have lost count of my total disk space but I am sure I have at least 15 hard drives. I believe I have at 6 Terabytes of total storage. I have 1.5 online for Sage to use, my watched saved shows are kept offline. I current have about 60 unwatched movies on-line.

I guess I am lucky my second PVR-500 card is slighty grainy. I only have 9 tuners on line instead of the 10 I could have. I need to update my sig for my thire HDHR and second PVR-500, I added to avoid conflicts.
