Vista/Zero Length File/Crash???
I did a fresh install of Vista Business sp1, about 2 weeks ago, on the server to gain better power management and time synchronization.
I didn't migrate any SageTV settings from the Server 2003 setup. Its just a basic install, with drivers and Pattersontech software to change the channels on the DirecTV STB. So I setup my Favorites and a couple manual recordings. With every other recording, SageTV seems to start the recording on time, but doesn't continue and appears to have crashed. It will create a zero length file. I have the server setup to go to sleep after 30 minutes, but after one of these "crashes" it doesn't go to sleep. If I go to certain areas of the GUI like the recordings menu or scheduled recordings, I will get the spinning circle of death. I would have to restart the service to bring it back to life. For the most part it will behave properly for maybe the next 1 or 2 recordings and then start behaving bad again. I was able to capture debugging info last night. Anyone ever experience anything like this? I'm going to contact support and point them to this topic also. Thanks

I got a reply from tech support.
They say that it is getting hung up when Sage is trying to change the channel. When I had Sage setup on XP with the same hardware, the channel changing worked flawlessly. Is anyone running Sage with the Patersontech device under Vista. Did anyone do anything special with their setups. Thanks

This has turned out to a hardware problem.
Opus, can you please move it to the hardware forums please. I'm still having a problem with channel changing. I've tried older versions of DirecTVSerialControl.dll. I've tried resetting the DTV stb. Rebooting, reinstalling the Vista BAFO usb/serial driver. I then figure maybe either the Patersontech adapter or USB port(s) probably went bad. I then went to http://www.patersontech.com/support/...eshooting.aspx. I tried troubleshooting using the section "Testing the satellite receiver USB port" Whenever I click the "Change Channel" button, the channel does change (very consistently at that). Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problem can be? Thanks

The problem has been rectified.
I mistakenly had Vista set to auto update, and apparently it updated something that killed how Sage talks to the DirecTV STB. Once I uninstall all the updates, it was good as new again. When I have time, I'll try to see which one specifically killed the system.
