Reminder to SageTV Admins - Please back up the forums regularly

AVSForum had a major database failure and lost "tens of thousands of posts". I'm a frequenter of AVS forums and it's a great resource, but I don't think I've lost too much with their database failure. If however SageTV's forums went down and lost many posts it would be a big deal. We all rely a lot on this forum for information, troubleshooting and ideas and any loss would be a major step back.

Just thought I'd put a note here to remind them of how important these forums are to me (and I think a lot of others) so don't forget to back it up regularly - thanks

If I lost [h]ardforum and the Sage forum, I would be so done, it would take months to reread and find everything that I use from day to day.....

Heh - the one page I frequent on AVS (my local OTA city thread) had a little bickering war between two guys going on for a couple of days (which I pretty much ignored). Today I went on and all of that was gone. I thought maybe a mod deleted it because it was childish nonsense.

What a convenient coincidence that the server failure got rid of all of it.

Nonetheless, a good point in the OP. I would hate to lose all of this great information here!!

The note says AVS lost their database and backup. Sounds to me (if their host is anything like our IT system at work) that their entire online storage system went down and they had to go back to tape backup or something.

Something really major must have happened at their host, like the whole facility took a dump or something. At least it's not a total loss, but it does suck.

Yeah at our shop we have dual backup locations to prevent that sort of thing.... hopefully

Looks like it wasn't actually a problem with not backing up, or losing backups, but a problem with a software upgrade that wasn't detected until too late, by which time all the recent backups were just backups of the same bad data.
