CBS-HD grief
I'm having a problem with CBS-HD primetime shows on some of my Sage clients. Every 2 seconds, the video lurches briefly and a random erroneous frame is inserted. This only seems to happen with hardware-accelerated video decoders (PureVideo, Cyberlink, ATI, Sage decoder w/ DXVA enabled). The videos play smoothly with the Sage MPEG decoder, but only in software mode (poor video quality).
I tried playing some of the problem CBS-HD files in WMP. Playback was silky smooth and flawless with every decoder. I did notice that the nVidia decoder was flipping between Film and Video every 1-2 seconds. Perhaps this is what's tripping up playback in Sage? Next, I compared the Sage playback errors between nVidia and ATI hardware. ATI didn't lurch as severely or insert bad frames, but it still sputtered every 2 seconds. I was able to get the problem files working in Sage with the following combo: - Radeon X1300 - ATI MPEG decoder - Catalyst 8.8 drivers (automatic deinterlacing, 3:2 pull-down) Unfortunately, that doesn't work for my nVidia machines. They choke on CBS-HD whenever hardware accelerated decoders are used. I even installed the ATI MPEG decoder, but it sputtered just like nVidia, Cyberlink, and Sage w/ DXVA.

Try different versions of Nvidia drivers to see which give you the best result.
I was using 84.21 with Geforce 6600 for a long time, because it gives me the most stutter free video. After upgrading to 175.19, not only is it stutter free. It also detect bad-edit better. The only thing to be careful/consistent is to keep certain test clips you had problem with, and then test the same clips to see which driver works better for you. This is how I decide to upgrade/keep Nvidia driver versions.
