Moving from Sage Client to Sage Service

Question:

I've been using just SageTV Client for everything; have NOT been using the service. The documents state:
When running SageTV in Service Mode, the SageTV Service uses Sage.properties for its properties, while the SageTV UI uses SageClient.properties.

When not using the Service Mode, the SageTV UI will get its settings from Sage.properties.
I now want to start to use the service so I can turn off the client when I want but in doing so, I will loose all of my many properties already set in Sage.Properties. Can I simply copy the Sage.Properties file to SageClient.Properties to get around this?

First, to clear up some terminology, if your settings are stored in Sage.properties, then you're not using SageTVClient. You're using SageTV Media Center in application mode (as opposed to service mode). SageTVClient is a separate product for use on network PC clients and always stores its settings in SageClient.properties.

Once you enable service mode, the SageTV icon on your desktop will launch SageTV Media Center in pseudo-client mode. In this mode, as the documentation says, it will take its settings from SageClient.properties.

Nothing bad will happen if you just copy over Sage.properties to SageClient.properties, except that you'll have a lot of extra stuff in there that the pseudo-client doesn't need. You might prefer to run the pseudo-client once to initialize SageClient.properties, and then open both files in Notepad and just copy over the settings you want to keep.
