Can anyone comment on the following from the Hauppauge site as it might relate to comskip or placeshifting efforts?

Quote:
In addition, this version of HD PVR software supports new features such as: record to M2TS for playback on the Sony PS3,
Does this new container allow for easier implementations?

I don't know what M2TS format the PS3 is compatible with but if I had to guess it's probably a Blu-ray M2TS container.

I'd be happy to give it a try. I've had nothing but problems despite trying two different server machine (diff OS on each) and two different clients (a HD100 and an XP machine).

Sound disappears, video gets super choppy, get stereo sound when source is DD 5.1, etc.

I assume there's something substantially different about the older drivers.

Is there anywhere to report bug to Hauppauge? I'm definitely willing to help Hauppauge out in fixing some of the problems.

Say people did you know that HD-PVR can record 720x480 Progressive Scan? hehe if lucky enough to have a set top receiver that allow you to do that resolution

My SA 3250HD STB's can output 480p instead of 480i but the problem is that the de-interlacers in the cable boxes are crappy. My client PC's/HD100's do a much better job.

do i have to add these variables? they are not currently in my properties file

Great thanks! Can you share what is different about these drivers? Just curious... does it do something in a totally different way than the final drivers?

beta driver 53 did not work for me. I could not download beta driver 51.

The problem I had was the SDPIF sound was not complete. There was sound coming out, but not well. I think the video might have been slugish as well.

I used clear and reinstalled, but that did not fix it. This problem occurred on both HD PVRs. I went back to the 1.0b drivers.

Any ideas?

fyi - now I get an FTP page, but no file downloads.

I assume you mean with the one audio connection that I only have the SPDIF or the red/white audio cables plugin at a time. Yes I did. I had unplug the red/white audio cable from both the STBs and HD-PVRs.

I will try the other driver and see if that works...just not sure when. This is a busy weekend for me and taping schedule gets in the way.

Didn't get to try the older drivers yet.

Tonight was consistent with my luck lately... I picked up a 2nd Comcast DVR (newer one) to make sure that wasn't somehow contributing to my problems. Waited in line for 30min at the Comcast office, 30 min. on hold to activate, then the sound keeps dropping in and out (not talking through HD-PVR here... just STB direct to my speakers) so I can't watch the debate . So 30 more min. waiting for tech support, not someone from Comcast has to come out tomorrow. My god, can't at least one thing work... how bad can my luck be?

To at least be partially on topic on this post, I will comment that I wonder if some folks hear popping or screeching and others don't due to their decoder/speakers. I would guess that some decoders would filter this out... my Logitech z-680s I figure must not. Higher end decoders might.

On that note from Chriscic....

I have a Asus P5E-VM HDMI board (G35 chipset). I use AC3filter as my mpeg2 audio decoder and have the line "aac_audio_decoder=Arcsoft Audio Decoder" in my sageclient.properties file. What ends up happening in my setup is the Dolby Digital 5.1 signal gets "transferred" to an LPCM 5.1 signal that goes out over the HDMI cable to my receiver.

I plan to eventually figure out how to make the DD 5.1 bitstream got out over HDMI, but I'm so afraid to F things up since they have been workign relatively well for me.

Just thought I would throw out my setup if it helps others.

What does it really matter? As long as you're getting 5.1 surround sent to your receiver does it really matter whether it's decoded by your computer or your receiver?

Is there a beta version of TME out there supporting 5.1 sound? I'l like to try this to see if my problems are with Sage or the HD-PVR drivers themselves.

I know someone mentioned this somewhere...

Just installed the drivers tonight. Installation was very smooth, no questions about overwriting files.

Pros:
1. 720p playback is now smooth with no stuttering.
2. 5.1 audio works now!

Cons:
1. I had my sat tuner set to output the native resolution of the incoming broadcast. Never had issues with this before. Now, when switching channels especially to 1080i channels, sometimes the display goes black with no sound. Switching to another channel and then switching back usually fixes this.
2. Sometimes when changing channels, I get the burst of static out of the speakers.

I set the sat tuner to a fixed resolution (720p) for all programming and haven't had a problem with changing stations since. I still get the static occasionally but I can live with that.
I hope that the final release will correct the native resolution issue but for now I can record everything as 720p. ESPN looks and sounds fantastic!

EDIT: Well, I spoke too soon. After doing more testing today I'm finding that when switching stations "sometimes" the audio will go out with only a squeal popping out of the speakers every few seconds. I did not want to give up smooth 720p playback on my HD Extenders so I switched the audio out on the sat tuner back to PCM.

Loaded new drivers but am having an issue with no audio. I know the HDPVR is recording audio from the STB (via SPDIF) because I can record with TME and playback via WMP. I've tried playback from the server (WHS) and from HD-100, but no joy.
I would suspect a codec issue, but even the HD-100 isn't working. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I installed SageTV and the HD-PVR on a Vista (instead of my normal WHS machine). Through Sage on the PC, even though the video is choppy crap, the 5.1 audio was generally working ok. I did notice that from Sage the audio on SCIFI HD would play in stereo, while the source is DD5.1 (since my Comcast DVR outputs both optical and coax digital at the same time I could switch back and forth on the input).

HD100 is still crap. Will work ok on one channel but when I channel change the video gets choppy and sound goes to hell, and worst of all Sage tells me it has lost the source and I have to power cycle the HD-PVR to get going again.

I'm wondering if my HD-PVR is overheating again with the 5.1 chip going. If you're reading this Hauppauge, this is already my second unit and thanks for wasting so much of my time. I'm going to try and find a unit to buy locally, so I can see if that's better and then return it if it doesn't work.

Boy, I'm so glad I ditched my HD-PVRs. I've been happily watching HD DTV DVR boxes with multiple tuners, DD 5.1 audio, smooth fast forward/rewind, and no delay changing channels. You have much more patience that I do...

Make sure to power off the HD100. I initially had no audio until I actually powered off the HD100. (Not suspend)
