When I intsall Sage I lose Media Center
IF I install sage on a Vista machine running Media Center, I lose the "live tv"
aspect of Media Center. The app can't find the Hauppauge tuner. Question: why does Sage hog the tuner, and is there any way to disable it, or better yet, be able to fump back and forth between the two. |

Only one program at a time can use the tuner, I think its a race to see who gets to it first.
I dunno what you have to do to get Sage to release the tuner, perhaps just shutting down the service would do it. When Media Center gets to it first, I think you have to disable the MC services to get it to release it.

You can't use both for TV, pick one.

I understand I can't use both at the same time, but WinTV and Sage both can use the tuner independently.
Why, when I add Sage to my system, does Media Center lose it's ability to see the tuner? Is there a switch in the registry, or a Sage service to turn off somewhere, in order to be able to have the option of using Media Center independently while Sage is shut down? |

I don't know why WinTV can access the tuner with Sage Running...maybe becuse it's a Hauppauge written app. I can't do that with Dvico's software and a Fusion...I have to stop the Sage service. Sage has a shortcut to the service control app in it's start menu folder.

However, Media Center can't even find the tuner after Sage has been shut down. What menu contains the shortcut for shutting the Sage service control app? Maybe that's the problem. thanks |

I find it in my Sage program folder.

So how do you disable it? Delete it and reboot?

If you have more than one tuner, you could probably remove one from Sage and let MCE have it... If you only have one tuner, then you need to decide who should have it, cutting a baby in half so both parents can have him isn't a solution...
And the problem is with MCE, I had BeyondTV and SageTV share my tuners just fine, as long as both didn't try to use the same one at the same time...

Don't delete anything, just stop the service with the stop buttton.

I am not sure this is as much is sage's fault as the design of Windows MC. What you may want to do is have a tuner exclusively reserved for Windows MC and not available. I am not sure that will work since Windows is possessive and if it has to share, it doesn't want to have it.
Also, the reason WinTV plays nice with Sage and other programs is because its a lighter program and is not trying to take over the system for a dedicated PVR machine. Good luck.
