Query on audio settings?
I have my audio/video set up 'almost' perfect, but there is one aspect that trawling the forums has never quite produced an answer to. I'm hoping that someone will point me in the right direction. Painting the picture is a bit long and drawn out, but it leads to the question eventually....
I have a client that uses an audigy 4 pro with an onboard dts/dolby digital decoder. This is attached to a couple of power amps (ie no external receiver). This does hardware 5.1 and stereo, without issue but not pro logic of any kind. I currently use nvidia purevideo decoders (default in xp and sage) for both mpeg2 and dvd, no problem here. The audio is where it gets messy. On mpeg2 I have it set to use cyberlink, which is configured to give prologic2 output, giving me prologic2 for my regular stereo tv, which works great. Then for dvd I have it set to default, which invokes ac3 which then passes spdif to the audigy to decode the 5.1 streams. This seems to cope with most situations and can also differentiate plain stereo mp3 from tv too. The thing I cannot figure is as follows, I have some divx files that have a mixture of ac3, 5.1, 2.1 and plain stereo soundtracks. Passthrough to the audigy is fine for the full ac3 5.1, but I would idealy like to pipe the 2 channel ones through the cyberlink decoder to give prologic2 as I have with my tv viewing. Is this possible and if so can someone suggest where I need to be looking to set this? |

Hmm, that one appears to have passed by with no suggestions. Lets try another approach.
Can anyone tell me what controls the decoder used for divx movies and/or if ac3 filter can be set up to do prologic2 with certain sources but still pass through for dts or dolby digital? |

I am trying to figure out the same thing, I want Sage to use the AC3filter for DVD and TV passing through the format untouched, but for MP3 audio in my music libray I want to enable 2 ch + sw mode. I have not been able how to make that work yet.

Well, actually (now that I think about it). You should be able to use the new properties to define what filter is used for what ie:
videoframe/ac3_audio_decoder_filter=<audio_decoder> Where <audio_decoder> is the name of the filter you want to use. AC3Filter does not (AFAIK) do DPLII or any other intelligent surround expansion. I'd just use Cyberlink for all AC3, 2.0 or 5.1, it's smart enough to handle each correctly. Don't even bother using the built-in "hardware" decoding in the Audigy. |
