Thinking about getting SageTV

Hello,

I have a 250PVR card and I am trying to decide on a PVR application to purchase.

Previously I used the DigiGuide software to schedule my recordings and my own application to view and record from DigiGuide's events. Unfortunately, they dropped support for U.S. schedules last year and I haven't had time to find another scheduling supplier.

Two main things stand out in what I need from a PVR.

1. Be able to control my DirecTV box through my serial port (I have been doing this with my custom app I was using)

2. Be able to have at least two different log ins and preserve show ratings or allow me to assign a rating to recorded shows. This is so I can log on my kids and they can see G rated material but my wife or I have to be present for anything beyond that.

Does SageTV allow for this?

Hey, welcome.

My first suggestion would be to download the demo, that will give you the best feel for SageTV.

1) If you can do this now, Sage should be perfectly capable of it also.

2) I'm not sure, but I know Sage has parental controls built in, although I've never used them.

I believe Sage's Parental controls require a password before viewing any material above a set rating. This, while not hiding the title "Big Butt's 3", would prevent it's viewing by someone without the password.
