Question New mpeg4 tuner on newegg.com

Anyone seen/tried one of these?

The reviews are favorable, plus it does mpeg4 encoding... allegedly...

I'm tempted to grab one, the price is right.

Gauranteed not to work. No hardware encoder.

Thanks,
Mike

Here only REALtime Hardware MPEG4 Encoder it from Plextor called Digital Video Converter, Model PX-M402U but I haven't scean any clip from this new model that say it can encode DivX file in REALtime.
As said Mike that card is not hardware encoder.

No? So their "Real time MPEG Encoding" is software based?

How sad.

Thanks for the pointer tho!

What about this thing?

SHS, do you mean you think it *is* software based or that you think it *is not* software based?

it is based on the same chip as the Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP....
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...122-181&depa=0

Software encoder.

Also, rrussel, the one on ebay says sys req. of a P4 .... probably not pure hardware encoding. My PII400 runs sageTV with a PVR-250, PVR-350, and a network encoding PVR-250...and I can only do it because of the pure hardware encoding of the Hauppauge cards.

That would be cool, but then we'd have to have SageTV OSD on the Xcard. I wish someone would come out with a card that could do HW Mpeg1/2/4 encoding and decoding with a fully documented API to implement OSD.(dreaming)

This thread is tied into something I've been thinking about it. I noticed on the "Telly" box, http://www.interact-tv.com/index.php they list divx as one format.
Not sure how they do it. I'm assuming it's a software encode. I haven't seen the box , though it's difficult to imagine it's done on the fly.
Anyone familiar with the box or familiar with how it would work ?

Stuart
