HD Homerun 100mb versus 1gb...

I'm not sure why, but my motherboard says it has a 1 gb network port and supposedly HD Homerun can also connect at 1gb, but for some reason the connection is 100 mb, anyway to change this? don't have any problems yet, just wondering why it isn't connected at high speed.

Network connection is direct to motherboard on nvidia, AN8 motherboard...

"Will plugging a 100 Mbps device into a gigabit switch slow down the network?

No. If you plug the HDHomeRun into a gigabit (1000 Mbps) switch, only the link between the HDHomeRun and the switch will be 100 Mbps; other devices will connect at their normal speed."

A direct connection to the PC should net the same results.

Ahh, I should have checked and found that it is a 100 mbps....I got mislead by this thread:

Try this fix for the HDHR on 100Mb network
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ght=HD+homerun

Which made me think that the fix was required if you were running at the slower 100mbps speed instead of 1 gbps speed...so really the above fix is for everyone...

True.... that is somewhat deceiving. That fix allows for less bandwidth to be taken up in the stream(s) from the HDHR to the server (through whatever routers, switches, etc., you have between there), by eliminating the unused subchannels from the stream(s). But anyone can install it (no reason not to, I don't think). And, of course, depending on how many tuners you have and how much other activity you have on your network at any one time, a 100Mbps stream can be plenty enough anyway, even without that patch.
