Thanks Michael, that was the problem. I now have some working sky HD channels. I'm now going to go through and add some more

So far so good. I do have a couple of questions though.

Firstly, before I go at it like a bull in a china shop and ruin everything, what's the best way to add channels? Can I simply add them using sage's own add channel feature, by making up a name, a guide number, and then adding the correct physical number and sid?

And secondly, is the service mode safe to use on version 236? I'd like it to start up automatically, and I believe it starts everything in the right order. Presumably dvbe4sage first, then sagetv service?

Cheers in advance

John,

Regarding the channel setup, you better get advice from your fellow UK users. Bear in mind the channel numbers expected for Sky UK are the same as "remote" numbers and there is no need to enter SIDs.
Service mode is perfectly safe to use, I use it myself for more than a year and I know the same from many other users. If you install the service according to instructions as described in the Wiki, it will create the neccessary dependency for Sage service and the system will start them up in the right order.

I use digiguide and Stephane's XMLTV Importer using the standard sky channels numbers. That way no more setup is required. Just create a line up with the channels you want with the sky numbers and you're done. Just remember though that if you have a mix of DVB-S and DVB-S2 cards you must create 2 line-ups so sage knows that it can't tune a DVB-S2 channel with a DVB-S card

Hi,

I am keen to see if I can set this plugin up for Sky UK, would it be possible for someone to send me or help me locate the latest instructions.

Many thanks,

That's the way I'd like to do it, but I'm a bit hazy on what all the boxes mean, which can be customised, and where you find the info for the one's that must tally with other things.

If I give you an example. I don't have any info for FX HD other than what dvbe4sage creates in it's logs, e.g.

How would I go about adding this to my lineup?
Number and XMLTV Data I know about.
I think that the 'call sign' is what my epg will show, and I can put whatever call sign I wish.
I also think that 'Name' is what sage calles the channel description, and again I think that can be set to whatever I wish.
But 'ID' is a total mystery. Is it required? And if so, where do I find it?

Also, is there any reason why sound should be a bit hit and miss? Sometimes it's there, and then other times the same channel will be silent. I've tried the different audio language options with no joy.

Thanks for any info in advance.

P.S.

I'm not 100% up to speed on it yet, but if you think I might be able to help feel free to PM or email me

There was one other thing whilst I'm here. I'm struggling to get service mode up and running, and I'm not familiar enough with cmd to tailor it to my needs.
Reading the howto, it seems to suggest that you don't have to specify your service name, username, and password if you're happy with the default settings, so I tried
C:\DOCUME~1\SAGETV~1>dvbe4sagesvc /install

and I got

'DVBE4SAGESVC' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I figure it's because I didn't use the whole line:-

dvbe4sagesvc /install [/servicename:name] [/user:domain\username] [/passwordassword] <<ignore the smiley

Am I safe using that line un-altered, or will it try to use 'domain\username' as my username? And if so, do you have to delete bits to keep the default settings?

I hope that makes sense, because I just confused myself a bit

I think the > in your command line should be a \

Also, the username and password should be the ones set up on your machine, not the literals specified like "domain\username".

Cheers for the reply.
I was just being a numpty. What I didn't know is that 'cmd' is not the same as 'command', so I was using the wrong program for a start! Then I didn't know you had to navigate to the right directory before it would install.
All sorted on the service front now, it loads up great

For anyone in the future, I used this technique

start>run>cmd

then at the prompt I typed

cd C:\

Which changed the directory I was looking at to C drive, I then typed

dir

this gave me a list of all the folders in C drive, I then navigated further into the Program Files folder by typing

cd Program Files

then

dir

So I could see where I wanted to go next. I carried on doing this until I'd found dvbe4sagesvc.exe

I then typed

dvbe4sagesvc /install

After a short pause I got a message saying it had installed and altered sagetvservice to suit.

I'm sure there will be a quicker way to do this, but this should be fool proof for anyone struggling or unfamiliar with 'cmd' like myself

The ID is the sky channel nummber. Name and call sign can be anything you wish.

I too get the audio problem you described. I've been on to sage support for two years about this and it's never been completely fixed. About 9 out of 10 times it's fine. When it does it, if you go into audio selection you'll notice it incorrectly identifies the ac3 track as mp3. If you get this in a recording, just run it through TSMuxer and this will fix it. For live TV switching to a SD channel and back again usually fixes it.

I can't seem to find any instruction on how to add a second encoder. I know it should be on port 6970, but how do I input this so dvbe4sage understands?

I've tried
[Encoder]
ListeningPort=6969,6970

But this doesn't seem to work because even though sage shows my second encoder, when I try to watch 2 channels at once, the second says it can't as there's no available tuners. I'll attach my properties and ini files to this post incase the fault lies within.

Cheers

John

at work at the moment John, so can not double check my answer.

But looking at your sage config you have 4 tuners - the 2 physical FireDTV and 2 presented via DVB4Sage.

I would guess these 2 firedtv tuners are the same ones dvb4sage is using, so as a test - remove them from the sage configuration so to remove any chance of double booking attempts.

looking at the settings i can see Last Channel was set on all 4, which does suggest that sage is trying to use them directly.

Cheers for having a look. I do have 4 listed in the sage properties file, but I only added the dvbe4sage one's as video sources in sage, so it shouldn't be trying to use them at all.

I'll continue to tweak, and see where I get.

John,

Under listening port, you need to specify only the first one, all the rest are automatically allocated in consecutive order, so, if you defined the number of virtual tuners equal to 2 and the starting listening port is 6969 (BTW, this is default, so you don't even need to specify it), the virtual tuners will occupy ports 6969 and 6970.
Your sage.properties file looks good, you don't need to change anything there. However, you do need to add the virtual tuners (one by one) as video sources using Sage UI. Damian's guide contains exact instructions, including screenshots, on how to do this.

Best regards,

Michael.

Well, I've just viewed 2 channels...... at the same time....... using both tuners

But after about 2 seconds both screens lock up and become unresponsive.
I've tried restarting all the machine's in question but to no avail.
I know the FloppyDTV tuners I'm using are known to be flaky, but I'm hoping they aren't the issue.
I thought maybe it was an encryption issue, but it happens on unencrypted channels too.

I've attached a full log in the hopes it might throw some light on the subject.
This last part I've put in the code below as it seems to be the bit where it all goes wrong.
I was watching Frasier - The Kid, which was playing fine. Then I tried watching The weakest link on BBC1 in another room. Both machine's froze.
If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate suggestions.

Cheers

John

John,

This line:
Code:
2010-04-07 17:39:54.156 #1: File operation failed, stopping recording of channel 128 ("ComedyCtralX") on source="FireDTV BDA Tuner DVBS2", Ordinal=1
means there was a problem writing the oputput file to the file system. Please, check your system for general stability.

Best regards,

Michael.

DVB Enhancer & DiSeqC

Hi,

I am about to try this interesting plugin. I have 3 FireDTV cards that are each connected via a DiSeqC switch to 3 LNB's pointed at Astra 1, 2 and 3. I have a couple of questions:
1) For the non-FTA channels I have a paid subscription with TV Vlaanderen (Like Canal Digital). They use SECA3 encryption. Can I expect any problems with SECA3? Is this supported?
2) Currently I have a SmartWi to share the paycard; what card reader do you propose that works with DVB Enhancer?
3) Can this plugin work with DiSeqC switches? If so, how can I configure this?
4) Any information to get me started asap is greatly appreciated.. Anybody that has this configuration working already?

A happy Sagetv user

Johan
