Christmas Theme for SageMC

UPDATE: These themes are now available for download
Holiday Snowman Theme
2nd one is the ChristmasTree Theme
3rd one is the Holiday Sleigh Theme

more to come...

Well its the Holiday Season and I thought it would be a good time to try some new looks for my HTPC setup. I kind of like some of the backgrounds I found and thought I'd share the Holiday spirit with everyone.

I've been toying with making a simple Christmas Theme for SageMC these past few weeks and finally found the time to work on it today. I'm not completely done yet, but thought I'd post some previews and get any input from the masses before I uploaded these.

Mostly what I've done is find a bunch of nice Holiday, Winter and Christmas Background images usable for SageMC. I then took the BlueTwo icons and added a little Christmas touch to them. These examples are using a Horizontal menu style but you could do pretty much anything with this. Here's some of the main menus with different backgrounds:

Let me know if you have any suggestions, comments or questions. I'll try to get something for you to download tomorrow if all goes well.

Holiday Theme 1 - Holiday Snowman

Finally got back to this today and now have the first theme posted. This first one is the "Holiday Snowman" theme for SageMC. I'll have a few more soon.

  • The Snowman background was found at PS3-themes.com.
  • Icons included with this theme are from the BlueTwo Theme (Included in the SageMC install) and modified with a little santa hat.
  • I've added a couple of little Christmas sound effects as well so if you want to enable those, update your SageMC settings to enable UI sound effects: SageMC Settings>Main>GlobalUI Settings>Behavior>Play Sounds> and set to Enable

If anyone would like to put the Santa hat on an icon I've included that image file called "santahatsmall.jpg" that you could photoshop your icon with.

If you run into any problems with this theme download or have any questions suggestions let me know.

Holiday Snowman Theme Download

I'll have a few more Christmas Holiday themes with additional background images available soon.

You probably did do this already but just in case: Did you go to the SageMC settings and themes and select HolidaySnowman?

If you did and it isn't installing the icons, check this folder:
STVs\SageTV3\SageMCE\Themes\HolidaySnowman\MenuIcons
and look at the icons there. Do they have the santa hat?

Strange. Could you try to use dynamic menus (hit escape or options button) and set one of the icons manually through that and see if it works?

I'm kind of stumped as to why it isn't working for you - anyone else have an idea?

The icons are defined in menu.xml. Did you include a separate one? Does the nblue theme use custom icon names thus breaking the conversion to a new themes icons? I am too new to SageMC (again) to offer more than this..

I think if you remove the path from the icon definitions in your dynamic menu definition file, then it will look for that filename in the current theme.

Aloha,
Mike

Here's the fix. I went to dynamic menu and load other menu and selected sagemc_menu.xml

QueOnda,
I'm wondering if you had previously set your icons to the NBlue icons manually via Dynamic menus. If so, they might have "stuck" even after installing a new theme. Just a thought.

I just installed the theme via the download on a test PC and the icons showed up. If anyone else is having trouble getting the icons to automatically install like this let me know.
