Can't Find Networked Media Files
I can't get SageTV 6.5 to find media files across my network. When I configure the media directories, Sage can see the folders and their contents but does not list them as available in the Media Center. Media files on the local computer running the Sage server are found. Windows Media Player finds and plays the networked files.
System information: Windows Vista 64 on a AMD Phantom Quad processor with 6GB of memory. Network has multiple HD200 extenders and other computers along with 4TB on storage on a 3Ware SATA tower. Off the air HD broadcast/Dish Satellite signal. System drives DLP video projector, one plasma, and four LCD HD TVs. Any suggestions? By the way, the forum has been very useful in helping me configure my SageTV system which - with the exception of the networked media files - works great. Wonderful picture and features. Thanks to all who contribute. You've already saved me alot of frustration! |

Are you using SageTV in service mode? If so, the service has to be configured to log in as a user with a password who has permission to access the network locations. And, the service can only access UNC paths, not mapped drive letters.

Thanks. SageTV is running in service mode but I did turn UAC off. Do I still need to set up a user/password? The paths are set as UNCs. Interestingly enough one HD200 that accessed I connected to my old test version of SageTV has no problem in finding the videos directly when not connected to SageTV. A second HD200 that was connected to my final SageTV setup cannot access the video files. This would support that the SageTV running in service mode is not configured correctly. I'll spend some time on this tonight.
Thanks for the reply. |

Yes, you still need to set the service to log in with valid username that has network privileges. The default service login (LocalSystem) cannot access network resources at all. (And if you're accessing them via UNC paths, they're network resources, even if they happen to live on the same machine.)
