HD-PVR IR blaster

i was wondering if anyone has replaced their IR LED on the end of the blaster that comes with the HD PVR. i have 2 problems with it, 1) it does not stick to my dish receiver, and 2) i have a hard time finding the spot where it needs to be for the signal.

i want to buy a IR LED from radio shack and probably a small box to place it in front of the receiver. I know I can buy a IR blaster, but the blaster with the HD PVR works and I just want to improve it.

I used a piece of packing tape to attach my IR blaster to my Fios STB. What I did was to find the best location for the sensor was to hold it in one hand close to the STB while sending codes with the IR setup program until I figured out the best spot. It was *not* intuitive.

Haven't tried the Radio Shack IR LED but would be interested to know if it works.

Basically the same here. Though mine did come with extra sticky pads the surface is kind of curved so it just doesn't get a good grip.

As for finding the IR window I used a flashlight to see thorugh the dark plastic on the front of the unit till I located the actual reciever and just taped the blaster over that. Worked fine and is still holding.

Yeah, I did the same. It took a whole 2-3 minutes to figure out where to attach it.

Mine didn't stick either but since it's in the basement and I never see it I just scotch taped it.

finding the ir diode on the STB is not the problem my dish receiver has 3 white spots on the front that receive the signal. it's finding the output of the blaster. i've tried taping it on, but it i can never get it just right. I've been thinking of breaking that red box and just exposing the LED to see if that helps, but i'd rather just cut the wire. wire is easy to reconnect; i break the box and it may not work anymore.
