SageTV Client with single core 3.0 GHz HT plays .h264 perfectly fine!
My computer at work got bloated and could barely move. Because the computer was 3 years old and its a work computer that I can't afford to take a gamble that it is not something more serious, I decided to get a new computer.
In my computer hobbyist opinion, I believe the problem was either something was installed on the HD or the HD was bad. I decided to replace the HD with an IDE that I knew would work and see if I could make an SageTV Client out of it. The computer is a Dell 300, P4 3.0 GHz single core HT. There is no PCI-e or AGP video port. I purchased this video card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133245 Its a PNY Nvidia 8400 GS 512 MB Ram. This is the best nvidia PCI card I could find, but when I don't have a PCI-Express or I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and installed the ArcSoft decoder. All my .ts and .h264 files play great in this setup! No stuttering, just works. The cpu is averages 11%

XP Pro. I considered Linux for a second, but since I am more comfortable with XP, I decided to stick with what I know for this system.

I have some questions for you.
1. Does everything else work? Your online content etc.? I tried to use the arcsoft codecs and I could not get video to work when browsing youtube or google video. I guess I need to make sure my sage.profile is correct. Did you run into this issue? Could you post your profile? Are you using this in conjunction with the HDPVR? I am thinking about getting one. |
