Sage running in Win2K3

Can anyone give me some feedback on running the Sage Server (NOT client portion, just the server) running on Windows 2003?

Any issues at all? I'm planning on using the 4 HDHR tuners (2 HDHR's in all) that I have on a different machine. No internal tuners (at least now)

Thanks for any feedback!

Stacy

It works well... I'm running Win2k3 with Sage 6.53 and one HDHR on the network, with a HD200 Theater at the Samsung TV. My server is not a dedicated box, it's the computer I use for everything. Athlon Dual Core 6000+, 2G ram. When I started with Sage, I did get a dedicated internal HD for it. The HDHR works fine with Win2k3 and Sage... At first I tried a couple others, BeyondTV, TotalMedia (comes with the HDHR), and GBPVR. I could not get BTV or TM to work at all, and GBPVR was a pain to get set up. Sage works fine, very little tweaking needed. I'm happy with it.

Mine works pretty good as well. I've a slight driver issue caused, I think, by SP2 amd my specific motherboard, but other than that, everything's dandy.

Make sure you have enough RAM (i.e. as much as you can put in, to 2k3's max of 4Gb - unless you're lucky and you've got a 64bit edition, in which case, good luck getting drivers!)

How are you changing channels? I'm thinking of moving to W2K3, then to W2K8, then to W2K8 R2 (we'll see how far I actually get). SageTV on my XP box is currently using the Actisys IR200L serial transmitter for changing channels on my cable box and was wondering if anyone has had any problems with this on W2K3.

I use Firewire to change the channels on my comcast box... works like a chmap. Overall its very stable and doesn't have many issues. One thing I would recommend is to get a server motherboard. I personally prefer the Supermicro ones. A good motherboard is key to a stable system.

I'm not sure about 2k8 and 2k8 R2.. but 2k3 R2 is build off the XP codebase so most programs that are designed for XP work fine for 2K3.

What firewire card are you using with your server to control the box? Also what box do you have?

Thanks!

I have no problems with Sage on Windows 2003, and I use a Supermicro server motherboard too. I never watch anything on it as a client though, but it does work when I need to for troubleshooting. (I had to buy a sound card though just to tell Sage I had one present!)

Windows 2003 Server is slightly closer to XP than WHS, so you have that benefit too. Of course, it costs more.

I use the built in firewire port on my motherboard (Supermicro MBD-C2SBX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813182143) and the Motorola DCH-3200 box on Comcast.

I think I had to force TimMoores STB box plugin to send the commands because the box wasn't officially supported. Worked fine. Of course I didn't really write anything down when I setup the firewire channel changing (so I'll be screwed the next time). It was a kind of convoluted process because I couldn't find one consice guide to do exactly what I want (change channels via firewire from sagetv and nothing more) but i got working after about an hour of fiddling.

No problems in 64bit mode if you have the drivers. PVR500 will not work if you have more than 4g of ram, which was the main reason for moving to a 64 bit os.
