Simultaneous analog and digital recording
Is there a method of simultaneously recording the same show with an analog and a digital tuner ?
There are currently four analog tuners (Hauppauge 150's) and one HDHR dual digital tuner in the system. Occasionally, a show is recorded using one of the digital tuners and there is no voice audio. There's background music and sound effects, but no voices. So, until the problem gets solved, I would like to 'back up' the digital recording with an analog one. Possible ?? |

3+ years ago when i decided to give tv a try again, and re-used my rooftop antenna with a STB ATSC tuner, at least one prime-time show per night would have audio issues - many similar to yours - the surround sound is there, but the center channel isnt. wonderful =) the good thing is that as it has gotten closer to the analog turn off date, broadcasts have gotten immensely better. in the past year to 18 months, it seems that broadcasters have actually started to care about the digital/HD feeds (like the NFL finally switching to all HD video cameras, instead of using SD in 16:9 mode for some of the "lesser" games)

My wife brought this exact thing to my attention a few weeks ago after I installed the HDHR and 2250. The problem for me is that she was viewing them on an MVP and the Sage Server would not downmix the 5.1 sound to Stereo for the MVP to properly decode. I replaced it with the HD200 and now everything is fine again. If you are viewing this on the server or client then maybe your Audio decoder or Speaker setup needs adjusting... I'd look to these solutions before deciding it's a QAM transmission issue. Although I could be wrong

You can record both at the same time. Just set up a favorite for the show on the analog channel, and setup another favorite for the show on the digital channel. If the show comes on more than one channel you can pick and choose when you setup the favorites. I do it all the time. I record analog for the MVP's, and digital for my client. Then I set the MVP's to only show non HDTV shows, use the favorite channels plugin to only show analog channels in the guide on my MVP's.
Works for me since I did not like trying to watch HD stuff on an MVP. They don't seem to like that so much.. Quote:
