Best Linux Distro To Use?

I am converting a PC into a DVR and intend to install some Linux distro.

I'd appreciate suggestions on which distro is most compatible with SageTV or does it not matter?

Thanks

My vote goes to Ubuntu. I recall there was a poll about this last year or so...

If you have a favorite distro who's package management system you know well, I would pick a 32-bit version of that. If you don't have a favorite already,

I expect a 32-bit Ubuntu will be your best bet. Kernel drivers on 64-bit kernels appear to not always work well with 32-bit Java apps (like SageTV)

I think it makes sense to go with Ubunutu 32-bit as it is what SageTV seems to be favoring. Also, whichever distro you use you will likely want to grab the latest drivers for capture cards.

You can do 64-bit if you want to, but it adds another layer to be aware of.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and followed the howto on the forums.. works great. I'd only add to grab quicktime via apt-get if you want to view mp4 videos on the placeshifter or client.
