Explain the difference in backup drive and pool drive in whs

I am confused as I thought if your drives were part of the pool with replication you already had a backup. What is the purpose of adding backup drives like it prompts you for when adding a new drive?

If you add a drive to the pool, the space becomes available to all of the shares. If you add the drive as a backup drive the free space is not available to the shares.

I would only use a "backup" drive under two circumstances:
1) It's an external drive and I want to back up shares and take it off-site.
2) It's used to backup non-duplicated shares.

sme knew I could count on you to answer thanks. That is what I thought but wanted to make sure.

So basically the "pool" is dynamic if you add a file that is say 7gb to a hard drive that is replicated it automatically deducts 14gb from available storage. But if you add it to on unreplicated share it only takes 7gb

am I right?
