Installs is probably tens of millions - how many copies of Vista HP, Vista Ultimate and XP MCE have been sold? That would be the number of installs but the number that actually have a TV tuner installed or who actually use the Media Center app is a wee fraction of that number.

Yeah, as others mentioned not all users post here. I'd guess that there are many more Sage users than forum members.

Actually, I'm not certain that the total number of users would be much different than the number of forum users. I mean, who could actually get satisfactory SageTV install up and running without help from on here?

I think the correct answer is: "More and more every day".

Still, this only tells part of the story. BeyondTV is more basic and doesn't lend itself to as much forum involvement as SageTV and MS Media Center does. Also, there are likely many users of the products that don't ever sign up or post on the forums (as has been said before above). Yes, that is the most important answer. I have no doubt SageTV has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 15 months and continues to do so today. As long as the owners continue to earn enough money to make it worth their while and don't get too crazy and overspend, SageTV will continue to exist. I don't think much else can be said beyond that except for speculation. |

I did, it was quite easy actually. My first "server"was just an xp workstation, installed sage, hooked up my 2 extenders and I think I was running full steam in less than 30 min. I remember saying to my self that I could not believe how easy it was to get going.

Then I started customizing..... ![]() So perhaps the real question is, how many people are satisfied with the base product? From reading threads around here, you'd think no one. But of course, "not being happy with the base product" is presumably why we are posting here. ![]() But going back to my original post, as Brent said, I think there are a large number of those 12,000+ registered members who probably are not "active"... either they once had Sage and now don't, or else they asked a few questions and decided not to buy in the first place.

One of the features that we all love about Sage is the customization aspect. As part of that, one of the first customizations I installed in Sage was the dynamic customizable menu plugin. It allowed me to make the sage menus more intuitive for my personality. And every upgrade that came along for sage I would immediately drop that plugin right back in. Until 6.4.8. For some reason I never installed that plugin (I think I saw something was broken, but can't really remember). Strangely enough, I haven't minded the default menu layout much and don't miss my "more intuitive" layout. Apparently I am more satisfied with the default Sage than I thought...

i did, and then as soon as i started screwing around with it, i came here. the rumor is always that 10% of a community is actual active - in a local car club i used to be on the board of, we saw under 10% turnout for events, about 10% registered for the forums, etc (this was a club of 1300). to round it all off, i would hazard a guess of: 150,000 sagetv users 15,000 registered in the forums 1500 active forum users

I'm happy with the "base" install, never saw any reason to install any Add-ons. Now, if I had previous experience with MCE or another product, I would probably "skin" sage, but it works fine for me.
I want to customize a system for outside users, that will be customized, I just haven't finalized the system design yet. |

Enough that they can pay the bills. It's not like these guys have other jobs and are doing this on the side just in case it works out. They have been around for 7 years that's a pretty long time for a private company like this and its not like its the 90s where they can keep running to venture capital companies for funds. Be glad they seem to be doing ok and understand that they don't have to tell us anything about how they are doing.
