There's a couple ways you can do this. The first is to add this line to the r5000 config file:

PreCode: ok 100 ok 100

The config file should be named <your serial>.cfg. The serial number is the number in the Device Select field of the DVR. The command tells the dvr to send the select remote code to your STB twice waiting 100 milliseconds after each prior to sending the code for the channel you've selected. If your STB is inactive, this will wake it up prior to sending the channel change codes.

The command file Plucky referred to should contain this command:

r5000hd -rem ok

Set up a scheduled task under the Windows control panel to run the command. I placed a file with the command called "keep_active.cmd" in my c:\program files\r5000hd directory and then set up the task to "Start in:" c:\program files\r5000hd.

I'm actually using both methods to be doubly sure that all is working well, although the precode is all I probably need.

Good luck,
Mike

Here is how I set it up on my 211:

On the main menu it is option 7. Then select "create timer". On the next screen select Auto in the first column, Daily in the second and channel 105 in the third (the channel does not matter as long as it is one you receive). Next select "edit time" and enter a time of 3:55 am.

Other times when I change channels I get the popup like I have told it to stop if I hit restart once sometimes twice the feed will show up?
Plucky... can you confirm that you are running the r5000 on a WHS server? Can you confirm which version of the r5000 software you are using?
Just getting ready to plunge into WHS and am trying to gain confidence in the solution before I trash the WAF.
Thanks!

OK... got WHS installed and have Sage running on it. But can not figure out what to do with the R5000...

I'm don't have much experience with server level stuff, so maybe I am doing it all wrong.

I have Sage running as a service as a user named sage.

How do I get the R5000 application running? Should it also be running as user sage?

I guess I would make the same additions to the sage property files that I had in my XP installation.

Sorry, but this just has me a little stumped. It was easy on XP.

I don't have the R5000 but it shouldn't be any different if you ran it as a service on XP. If not then make sure you have a user that is in the Administrator group (your sage user) and that user HAS to HAVE a password. If the R5000 runs as a service or needs a user then use the same user. I would think the same additions (unless device specific like ip address, etc.)would go in the properties files. Just treat it as SageTV running in service mode. But I'm not sure if R5000 is supported on the WHS platform. (It's the same basically as Windows 2003 server)

There is a software application that has to run for the r5000.... how do I set that up to automatically run as a specific user?

Either setup a user to login automatically when WHS starts and put the R5000 app in that user startup folder or get the MS Windows 2003 Resource kit and get SRVANY and Instrsrv. This will let you turn any application into a service.

Thanks Gerry, I was under the impression that would not be done on a "server" OS.

Any R5000 / WHS users out there- is this what you are doing?

Well I have to have a user login automatically for the Netflix plugin with the loopback option. And servers have programs startup automatically in the startup group or in the registry "run" section. Sometimes you have to do things a little different on a server OS to get it to run the way you want. But someone with R5000 will certainly chime in.

I have two R5000 units and have my WHS login automatically to a user with the privileges all set up correctly. Other than a very rare hick-up with the R5000 driver it's been solid. I think I remember someone at one time posting issues with the R5000 capture application using the SRVANY tool. I never tried it myself though.

New software release...

Looks like there are new software and driver releases for the r5000...

8/29/09: ver 3.1c New version supports 64-bit systems. Requires new driver package and is incompatable with previous versions. Changes and additions: Startup options added. All configuration options managed via UI, configuration files no longer used. Record logging files eliminated. This data is retreived via the "Recordings Log" utility menu. Media Player no longer integrated with DVR app. Dish 211/622/722 periodic wake-up command added. Fast channel switch for SageTV modes.
Of course, I jumped in with both feet and so far so good. I have been suffering a recording fault every couple days as well as occasional channel change issues. Hope this will improve the stability.
I am running on WHS.

Is there anything special needed when upgrading? I was using v3.0e and tried to get the new version going. It opens up the r5000 and detects my first receiver and when it detects my second receiver it then also opens up a second instance which shows the first tuner on a tab and then the second tuner on the next tab and then shows that it found 2 more receivers but can't connect to them and asks if I want to restart the service. I only have 2 receivers so I don't know what that's about. When I select another receiver on the second instance it closes and then I'm back to the first instance which shows correctly my two receivers and says they are connected properly but if I select the other receiver now this instance closes. The little icon is still on the task bar but if I exit it I get a bunch of parameter errors.

Do I need to completely unistall the current drivers and program and start from scratch before installing the new version? When installing the new version it says it updated the drivers. I tried to revert back to the previous version and was only able to by using MS restore. I'm using XP.
