Server 2008 and HDHomerun Issues
Hi all. I am trying to get Sage TV working on a Windows Server 2008 server I put together for TV recording. I didn't do a lot of research, or I probably would have gone with Home Server (as it seems better supported by Sage).
After several hours of reading and extra driver installation, I was able to get HDHomerun & BDA support working on the server. All the HDHomerun utilities on the server can see the HDHomerun, and I can view channels using VLC from inside the HDHR utilities. I then follow the typical HDHR/Sage install of doing a scan, entering channel names, etc (I have done this process quite a few times in the past). If I then do a fresh install SageTV (tried both 6.5.9 and the newest beta 6.5.12) it goes fine until it attempts to configure the HDHR tuners. Both tuners are detected by the Sage install. When I click on one to configure it, it blinks a quick message and then goes into "Loading video preview" with either a spinning circle (6.5.9) or a never-ending progress bar (6.5.12). In my previous SageTV installs, I remember being able to click to bypass the video preview, but no matter what I click or what key I press my install is totally stopped at this point and I can find no way to continue. I was able to grab the error that is displayed a split second before the spinning circle by attempting the install from an extender: There was a capture error in playback -4, 80004005 There was a problem using the capture device Any ideas ? I have done many searches on this forum and I can't turn up anything that will get me past this point. Last edited by FreshOne; 03-22-2009 at 09:52 AM. |

Your server 2008 has no multimedia features installed or enabled by default. I'm not even sure DirectX is even on that box. You need to do some more research and make sure you have all the multimedia working on that box before going forward with Sage.

I was able to get this issue fixed with the help of the information in the DEBUG log. The DEBUG log indicated that the "BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter" was not loaded when attempting to display the preview window.
That filter is a part of psisrndr.ax, which I had to manually install as part of the BDA drivers (which don't come with Win2008 server). The DLL was there, but not properly registered. Attempting to register it would give the error "Prerequisite DLLs not found" (or something to that effect). Once I installed the "Desktop Experience" feature on Win2008, that appeared to install the the proper prereq DLLS for psisrndr.ax. After that, I was able to register psisrndr.ax. Once that was complete, the tuner install in Sage finished without any issues. |
