Itunes support

Is it possible to play music from my itunes server (not same PC as sagetv server) on the HD200? If so how? What is the best way? I have large collection of music (over 60GB) . Should I share the files form that PC to the server to the client? Can the HD200 see an itunes share?

I have 3x HD200s and I love my setup. Music is that last piece I need to make work.

I'm pretty sure the DRM on your iTunes music is going to prevent you from playing it on an extender. You may be able to play the music without DRM-if yuou have any.

Map a drive on your SageTV server to the pc with your iTunes music. Then add your iTunes music folder as a music import folder in SageTV. Its probably in c:\documents and settings\your name\my documents\my music\iTunes\iTunes Music. Non-drm protected music should play.

Music imported into iTunes does *not* have DRM.

Certain music *purchased* through the iTunes Music Store does have DRm, but as record labels allow, Apple is removing even that DRM.

Correct. That's why I called it iTunes music. Music imported into iTunes would have certainly came from somewhere else. And with Apple removing some of the DRM that is why I mentioned they may be able to start playing those.

Or if you are unwilling or unable to map drives, you can use the slimplayer stvi plugin (find it in customizations).

While the music that you've imported into itunes does not have DRM, Apple made sure that no-one, except another iTunes client could could actually play the music playlists that are served up via your itunes application. (that's much like drm)

With itunes 6 and below, custom clients could actually connect to your running itunes daap server and play it's playlists. That made Steve very angy. So itunes 7+ now fully encrypts the daap protocol so that ONLY apple clients can play the music served up by your itunes applications.

It's rather ironic that Steve wrote his "open letter" to RIAA stating the they need to remove DRM from their music, but yet his company still insists on DRM protecting every piece of software/hardware they they produce.
