Sage .ts to .mpg

Since VideoReDo has still not given us the ability to edit SageTv created .ts (h.264) files, and who knows when if ever they will, has anyone found a program (free would be good) that can convert the Sage HDPVR .ts files to a standard .mpg file that VideoReDo can read and edit? I know about TMPGEnc 4.0 Express, but it is about $100 I think. That is a little high just to convert a file. Other forums mention HDTV to MPEG2 version 1.10.3, but I have tried it and it does not work for me.

I read thru the thread, but I'm not sure this is the solution. One thing I didn't mention in my original post, and might be what they are talking about in the linked thread is that converting Sage .ts files to DVD format is no problem. Sage itself can do that, but the rub is in convertting the Sage High def .ts to a High def .mpg file. I can't find a program other than TMPGEnc 4.0 Express that can do it, and as I said it is $100.

why would you want to convert the (better, smaller) compression of HD h.264 to (lower quality, larger) compression with HD MPEG-2?

HD h.264 --> DVD MPEG-2 makes sense
HD h.264 --> HD MPEG-2 is a waste.

Actually, I've been taking a 2 step approach for cutting and outputting HD-PVR files and have had very good results.
  1. Run todvrms to convert the file to dvr-ms. Why convert to dvr-ms? So that I can perform the next step.
  2. Run DVRMSToolbox against the created dvr-ms file to have it automatically cut the commercials from the file and output to .mpg or whatever I want.
The result? A commercial free video file in whatever formt I'd like it to be. All thanks to Andy!

The reason is to be able to edit with VideoReDo which is not possible with .ts (h.264) files.
