NEWBIE with HVR-2250

I just installed the HVR-2250. I read a post somewhere that I should be able to add the dual hybrid tuners 4 times and have 4 video sources. Cant seem to get this to work. It keeps replacing the first source (e.g. tv tuner) with the second when I try to add (e.g. digital TV). Any suggestions.

Also, I get an occasional stutter in HD. Are there some optimal settings/tips/tricks for this card. I have it running on Vista Premium w/ 4GB ram and ASUS P5Q-EM mb w/ on board Intel HD graphics (G45 northbridge).

Thanks!

Each hybrid tuner can be added to Sage as a single analog tuner and a single digital tuner. With the 2250, you will end up with two analog tuners and two digital tuners.

No real tricks to get it to work - the latest drivers work well (27091).

For some reason I can't get this to work. I added the Digital TV Tuner source and setup as cable and then selected my provider and scanned for channels. I then hit add new source, selected the same tuner and selected TV Tuner, then setup as cable and to use the same guide.

Does it matter that I am asking Sage to use the same tuner for cable twice? Am I missing something?

I will try the 27091 driver. I am using the 27086. Hope this helps.

I have another question on the 2250. I tried it with MCE and the channels change very quickly. In sage however, they take a few seconds to tune in. Is there a setting that may help? Are there optimal settings for the 2250?

When you click "Add Source", do you have two sources listed?

Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Capture #2
Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Capture

If not, check sage.properties and look for mmc/ignore_encoders. If one of the devices is listed above, then you should shutdown sage and/or the sageservice and remove the device from being ignored.

Also, you would probably want different channel guides for the digital input and the analog input and reuse them between the two devices. Setup one device with two different guides and inputs, and then share those guides for the other device.

as far as quality, the 27091 driver helped me.

Thanks. I do get the two tuners. I will try the new drivers and two guides and see what happens.

Another thing I would try is to setup all of the tuners without trying a channel scan. After all the tuners are setup, then you can go back and do a channel scan.

I got this to work. The drivers did not make any difference in the issue I described but did have better playback.

I had to assign a different channel lineup for analog vs digital, as follows:

TV Tuner -> Comcast Analog
Digital TV Tuner -> Comcast Digital

I origionally was assigning Comcast Digital to both which then showed up as only 1 source. Not sure why this is. I would think you could have multiple sources with the same lineup but that was the solution for me.

Glad to hear you made progress. My 2250 appears to be performing nicely with my 150 and 1600 thus far...albeit with a fair amount of trial-and-error tweaking at first.

As an update, I had some issues with the HDTV tuner having the wrong channels. I think the issue was the Comcast Digital lineup included all channels, SD and HD. When a lineup is added to a video source by Sage, it defaults to the channels it thinks should be there based on the basic/extended service option, I believe. My solution was:

Added HDTV Tuner and assigned the Comcast Digital lineup. I then selected to disable all channels. Next I scanned for available channels so that only the HD ones were selected.

Unless I am missing something, this is somewhat of a design flaw. The 2250 has an analog SD tuner and a digital HD tuner. Apparently Sage recognizes the HD tuner as a digital tuner and assigns non HD digital channels from the lineup. There should be an option for HD channels only as I don't think the HD tuner is capable of decoding non-HD digital channels (or at least it would appear this way).
