Exclamation Scaling Back SageMC Development

Hi All,

As some of you know, I have begun work (with an amazing team of user/developers) on a new project named Phoenix, which I believe will bring some great new functionality and ideas to SageTV. In order to fulfill this vision I have decided to scale back future work on SageMC so the I can devote my time to this new project.

What this means is that I will not be adding any significant new features to SageMC after I finish work on the next release. However, I will continue to release maintenance updates to maintain compatibility with future versions of SageTV. I will also fix significant bugs if, or rather when () they appear.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support and thanks to the plugin developers who continue to add exciting new features to SageMC.

Aloha,
Mike

Thanks for all your hard work and I understand completely!!! Hopefully with the great developers we have we can "fill" some of the void. I am always able to help with anything you need if I can.

Thanks again.

No, thank you for your work in getting SageMC this far. God knows where we would be at without you.

All this means is that it will be time to move to Phoenix. With developers like you I'm sure it will be even better (although I find it hard to believe that is possible). Any sneak peeks or comments on features? ;-)

I definitely think this is a good idea. As much as I'd like to see development continue at the impressive pace you seem to keep, focusing on the Phoenix API is certainly a worthy and WISE diversion. Without a team of devoted developers working on Phoenix, it would undoubtedly take far longer for both it and SageMC. We all know how willing you are to lend a hand anywhere and everywhere, but it's much easier to focus on a single project. I'm sure your assistance will be of great value.

We'll all be here waiting when you "return". Besides, what choice do we have?

I wondered when you would decide to do this, you've done great work with SageMC as have all your predecessors.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new Phoenix UI and hopefully being able to add a few of my own customizations to the mix in the distant future

Many Thanks

Ben

New UI. Didn't know that was in the works. Does that mean we should stop developing for sagemc altogether? I would hate to think all my work would be null and void in a couple of months.

I dont suppose everyone will like the new UI so you'll still get users that want to use your screens.

Yeah but makes you think why develop now why not wait until the pheonix ui is developed and then develop for that.

This news is bitter-sweet.

I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with… Thank you and the rest of the tremendous efforts put forth by all the developers. Sage wouldn’t be as cool without you!

Because you can learn how to use Studio now so your ready for the new UI I also doubt you will see it until the end of the year but I can't comment on that as I don't know.

It should be noted that it will be several months (or longer) before there is even anything remotely available related to phoneix. So take this time to continue to work on plugins. Any time you spend on plugin development will only serve to make you a better plugin author.

You might see some screen shots start leaking out around Christmas time. Or not...

With the scaling back, is the upcoming release being pushed out quite a bit? I was planning to wait for the official release, but if it's going to be a while, I'll have to give the pre-releases a shot. I know you're really good with what you release even as a beta, but for the primary TV, I need to be very, very careful!

I think there will be very few changes from pre-release 41 to the next official release. I'm just going to wait to see if any new bugs appear and squash those as necessary. I expect the official release should come out in a week or two.

Aloha,
Mike
