Problem with CBS freezing and artifacts

I seem to be having a problem with recording HD off of CBS. The screen freezes and artifacts about every 30-40 seconds. It seems that it is "in" the recording as if I play the files outside of Sage, it still does it.

It didn't used to do this. I had flawless HD on all channels until about a month ago. I just started watching Harper's Island from early April and the recording is flawless. So something has messd up since then.

The only thing I can think of is I readded my HD100 back into the system about then. Could that be causing a problem? I increased the java heap to 768 and saw a performance increase with menus, but still have the problem on CBS.

What can I do?

Check your signal strength and signal quality for that channel.

If it is OTA it may be a local station problem. I have the same problems with CBS and contacted an engineer at my local station, channel 3 (Kalamazoo, MI). They said that they would be changing to a different channel and boosting their power on June 12th. He indicated that the changes should cure my problems.

My signal strength is showing 100% on channel setup.

I'm in Omaha, NE. I'm not aware of any problems. It is over the air (obviously) and I have no other digital tuner in the house to check it with. This is the only tuner available to me.

I would check with the station and see if anything is going on... sometimes the will own up to problems other times they won't! Be sure you channel strength changed up or down, I've learned the hard way that too good a signal is just as bad as not enough. You can overdrive the tuner and get the same symptoms that you are talking about. How close are you to the transmitters?

Probably no farther than 5-7 miles. I also have a booster on the antena.

Maybe the levels are too high? Is there any way to figure it out?

I don't of a way... I might would try taking the booster off if thats an option. I am so close I had to turn my antenna 180 degrees away from the tranmitters and put a 20db attenuator in line to turn the signal down even more. This has helped with most of the stuttering I am seeing... only see an occasional hiccup now.

I'm watching CBS right now, Criminal Minds, and it seems fine.

I wonder if its only recorded content that exhibits this problem? Live TV seems fine. I'll record something and see if it still messes up. If so, I'll unplug the booster and see if it makes a difference.

Are you watching "live tv" through Sage? If so, it IS recorded TV. Live TV in Sage is always being recorded.

If not, that is a clue to look at Sage or your input device.
