Can't Access Drives Between Vista & Win7 Computers
I for whatever reason cannot get my home network computers to share folders. I have looked at every setting I can and I get a access denied type message from both computers. I could really use some help here. Below are some more details.
Router setup shouldn't be a problem. I had both computers working fine and my whole house and any guest could access the files I allowed before. I can also remote in to both computers just and and do all my changes to my HTPC via VNC so I know everything works here. System 1 - Desktop Vista 64 Windows Firewall - Off UAC - Off The computer is connected to a private network (2WIRE218) Below are the settings from the Network and Sharing Center Workgroup - WORKGROUP Network Discovery - On File Sharing - On Public Folder Sharing - On The drives and folders are shared and the permissions are set to allow everyone full access. My second system can see the proper folders but receives a "You do not have permission to access \\Gameover-PC\Movies. Contact your administrator...." System 2 - HTPC Windows 7 RC Windows Firewall - Off UAC - Off The computer is connected to Home network. Below are the settings from the Network and Sharing Center. Currently the homegroup is disabled. Workgroup - WORKGROUP Home or Work (Current Profile) Network Discovery - On File & Printer Sharing - On Public Folder Sharing - On Meida Streaming - Off File Sharing Connections - Enabled for devices that use 40-56 bit encryption Password Protected Sharing - Off Homegroup - Allow Windows to Manage.. The drives and folders are shared and the permissions are set to allow everyone full access. My Desktop can see the proper folders and drives that are shared but I receive the message "Windows cannot access \\htpc-pc\d" and the details give me error code 0x80070005, Access is denied. WTF am I doing wrong this should be easy! |

Well it aint easy anymore! Only Win 7 computers can see other Win 7 computers when you have them setup as a Home network.
Try this in the "Network and Sharing Center" under "View your active networks" On the left next to the Network icon does it say "Home network"? If it does than that may be your problem! Click it and chose "Work network".
