LAN and WAN PlaceShifter users?
When I first installed the Media Server I skipped over WAN setup for PlaceShifter. PlaceShifter on the LAN worked perfectly. I then went back to try and setup WAN access and lost my LAN access. Is PlaceShifter limited to one or the other, but not both? I never did get WAN access working. I tried the automatic setup, which it said worked OK, but it failed the self test and fails actual use. I then tried the manual setup for programming the NAT. Everything seemed OK and the router log didn't show any errors, but I couldn't establish WAN access. Finally, after multiple problems, reboots, and a couple of computer lock-ups, I completely uninstalled the Media Server and started from scratch. I now have LAN access again, but am afraid to give WAN access another try. One question, I noticed during the WAN setup it referred to the 'Location Server' and 'Media Server'. Don't they exist on the same computer? When I did tried the WAN setup it seemed the failure was that the Location Server couldn't find the Media Server. What am I missing?

One problem could be that your uPnP isn't working properly. The easiest solution is to setup your server with a static IP address and then have your router forward the incoming Placeshifter traffic to it. This is a router setup issue where I have gotten help from my router manufacturer in the past.

I just discovered the UPnP setting for my router. It is enabled. I left the protocol at TCP, but it still doesn't work for some reason. I checked and the port I'm using is the same one that is set in the Media Server. Seems pretty straight forward:
1. Enable UPnP 2. Program the NAT: WAN_IP:Port # <-> LAN_IP:Port #, Protocol: TCP |

You're assuming uPnP is going to work. I've never been able to get it to work with SageTV. So, I manually give the Server a static address and program the router to forward the Placeshifter port range to that address.

Problem solved. I have several WAN static IP's and I accidentally programmed the NAT on the wrong router. All is well now.
