XP Dummy needs help deleting

I recently did an upgrade and consolidated my SageTV Server and NAS into one box. After installing the drives in the new Sage server I used Rsync to copy files from the NAS (NASLite, linux based) to the server. The problem now is that I can't delete or modify any of the files.

I am relatively sure it's a permission problem and have done some messing around with the "security" tab in Explorer but still can't delete files. I tried giving all users total access to all files but that didn't work.

I need a beginners guide to file and folder security in Windows XP. I just want all users to have complete access to everything.

When you go into the security tab then look for the Advanced button. When you go in there look for the Owner tab and have the user ID take ownership of the files. Also check in the properties of the file and make sure that Windows security isn't blocking the file.

It is a security issue and I figured out how to change individual files and delete them but I have not found a way to have the permissions cascade down the directory structure. I see whre it says "apply to this folder, files, subfolders", (going from memory) but it doesn't seem to do what it is claiming.

I see how to "take ownership" and that did take effect for the entire directory structure but allowing "full access" did not.

Any idea how to do that? Ideally I want to select the root of the drive, change the owner to the user I am logged on as and then give full access to all files and folders on hte drive.

I'm an old Unix guy and still do not understand some of the "features" of Windows. I'll take chown and chmod over this any day.
