MKV metadata used in library import on V6.5.18
I recently updated to v6.5.18 (from the v6.5.9 I believe) and ran into a problem with importing MKV files.
MKV files have metadata. I use a program called AutoMKV to convert MPEG2 into X.264/MKV. This program fills in the "Movie Name" of the meta data to "Done with AutoMKV 0.98.4". Now when I import the MKV files, they are all importing as "Done with AutoMKV 0.98.4". (ie, of 100 files, SageTV will only sees one). If I have a properties file defined, they will import correctly. But I have quite a few home movies / other that do not have property files. SageTV used to import media files by filename if no property file was found. (and I would like to have that functionality back). Is there a workaround? (other than creating a property file for every media file. I have MANY without property files). Thanks |

I've run into this as well. I recently moved all my movies from one NAS device to another and therefore had to re-import them in Sage. Several of them then came up with "Done with AutoMKV 0.98.4" (or similar) as the title of the movie - and therefore SageMC sees no match in the DVDProfiler database from which to pull movie information.
Previously all these movies were fine, so I assume some upgrade to either SageTV or SageMC over the last year or so since originally importing these movies is the reason. The upgrades didn't seem affect movies already in the SageTV database, but I'm speculating that new ones coming in would be affected. However I didn't see this because I no longer use AutoMKV. Here's the root of the issue: There is an optional element in the MKV header called Title. AutoMKV (and maybe others) use it to self-advertize by default. I assume you could tell AutoMKV to put the actual movie title in there if you like. Sage seems to be picking this up now. To resolve this is a bit of a hassle. There doesn't appear to be a simple tool for editing these like there is for AVI files - like abcAVI Tag Editor. In fact the only thing I could find was the Header Editor function of MKVMerge. Start MKVMerge, open the Header Editor, point it to your MKV file and expand the first tree of information and you'll see the title listing. Click on the checkbox to remove the title element (or type in the actual movie title if you wish) and save. I sure with this could have been automated - I had to do this manually to a few hundred titles... When you do this, the last edited date of the file is updated, so refreshing your import folders in Sage is all that's required - it will see the media has changed and should update properly. That's my story, hope this helps... RLW |
