VLC

This comes from the totally non technical point of view... so I'm not even sure this is possible. VLC 1.0 is out... it seems to play so many file formats without issues that you see with other players... could it be used somehow to supplement SageTV and their player. MPlayer is a capable player, but this was just a random thought. I'm sure if it was a better solution the guys at Sage would be looking at it already. I was just curious...

I'd wager most people don't use the default sage media player (Mplayer), but instead use Directshow for playback. Hardware Accelleration is the main reason.

Or we have gone completely to extenders and don't even use pc's for playback.
