HDHomeRun Question, scn file not being created for QAM
Hey Guys,
Soooo I've been having the HDHomerun and am getting ready for football season. SageTV works fine with it on my XP box. It "did" work on my Vista 64 last year. The motherboard went out on this system and I haven't messed with it for many months. I recently upgraded the motherboard and got it working, upgraded Sage to the latest version. The HDHomeRun Setup scans and sees all the channels (I'm taking one of the tuners on QAM). But Sage doesn't read this. After looking around on the forums, I learned that (at least I think) that the hdhomerun setup proggie creates a .scn file which is what the sagetv program uses to load up the lineup. I tested this successfully by copying the .scn file from my XP machine into the SageTV directory and got it working. But this is NOT satisfactory. What is going on and why isn't this working the way it's supposed to? Is it because the HDHomeRun software installs to c:\program files and sage installs to c:\Program Files (x86)? Maybe the HDHomerun doesn't know where to find the dir? Even though the hdhomerun software is set for SageTV and does say OK next to it? This did work last year on the same system. I'm guessing this is since I went past 6.5.7 maybe? BTW, this is Vista 64bit. Thanks dudes! Jimbo |

The .scn files probably are being created, but not being placed where you expect them to be. What is your UAC setting? See http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...402#post237402 for more info.

I did do a search for *.scn, and nothing comes up. If it's not hidden or something, then it's not there. |

I also run with UAC disabled and the *.scn files are created fine. It must have something to do with Vista 64bit. Have you checked the silicondust forums?

Hmm I'll post the same question on silicondust now. Just skimming through their forums, I'm not seeing anything. |

The .scr files are in the regular sage directory, the same one that contains the Sage properties and wiz.bin files. The *.scn files should be created as soon as you save the channel lineup using the silicondust software. Their software does the creation of the *.scn files.

Ok, I just did a search for .scn files, none found.
Running a scan now in the hdhomerun setup program. It's again finding all the stations. You're saying once it's done, I press OK, upon pressing OK, this .scn file should be saved from the hdhomerun program into the c:\program files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV? I will reply when it's finished if there are any .scn files anywhere when it completes. |

Scan completed, Press Apply, then OK.
Did an advanced search on C:, not just "indexed" stuff.. The only .scn it found was one in the recycle bin that I deleted. No new ones created with this scan anywhere ![]() |

I think pressing OK would work but I would press Apply first just to make sure.
My actual directory name that contains the *.scn files is: C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV I am not sure which version of the HDHR software I am running. I thought I was running 20090415, but I see I also have 20090605beta3. I would expect that I probably have installed the beta since I downloaded it. I think the beta3 did install a problem that people were seeing, but don't recall for sure.

Try creating a C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV folder and see if it puts it there. It might be a problem with the path being hardcoded in the HDHomeRun software, and not finding sagetv, because it isn't looking in Program Files (x86).

You should also make sure that the tuners are set correctly in the HDHomeRun Setup program. The source should be Digital Cable and the Application should be SageTV.

I did the scans with the c:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV folders, and nothing. For some reason the hdhomerun program isn't generating them I guess. Bah! |

Yeap, I know. I've seen the posts about the digital antenna.
That's why I've limited this to strictly the QAM which is only on the -1 tuner. As I've said, this did work, and does work on the XP Pro machine, on the -1 tuner. And it will work if I copy the .scn file from the XP. So I know the sage is configured correctly. |

Thanks to SiliconDust forums and you guys.
The answer was that even though I had long disabled UAC, there was a leftover SageTV dir in the virtual store. Deleting this entire structure allowed the hdhomerun to properly save the updated .scn file into the correct SageTV dir after reopening the hdhomerun setup app and simply clicking apply and OK. The new .scn file was immediately created in the SageTV and of course, the sage scan worked perfect. Done Deal, I'm ready for football season now! Woot! |

interesting, didn't realize that even if UAC is disabled, virtualstore will still be used first. though, I think that actually DOES make sense, to prevent something that is already using the virtualstore from breaking when UAC is disabled.

Yeap....true true.
I had disabled UAC sometime over a year ago, but I guess it was AFTER I put sage on this computer, so it had that left over dir. I'm thrilled it's fixed now. Still, the weird thing was that even in the virtual store, there was no new .scn file being created there or anywhere else until I deleted it. |
