email or text notification of system errors?

I recently installed 6.6.2 and like the new feature that displays an icon on the top of the screen when there are system error messages. This got me thinking... is there a way to send an email or a text page when such an error occurs? I get recording errors randomly from my HD-PVR that make all recording stop until I reboot. It would be nice to get a notification when this happens - sometimes I do not turn the TV on for a few days and thus sometimes I miss a few day's worth of recordings. If I had an email or text notification I would know to go check into it asap.

I am a software developer, but not familiar with Sage extensions. If someone could point me in the right direction I will look into writing an extension to handle this.

It's very possible. I do this using SageTweet which is free & easy to set up. It integrates with twitter and tweets the messages which you could set up to send you text messages and/or e-mails for certain alerts.

Here's a writeup I did about it.


I'm sure it would be possible to write an app to do the same thing not using twitter as well.

To round out your options... You can view system messages in the mobile web server 1.2 that was released today. The next version of nielm's web server 2.25 will also have a page for viewing system messages and an RSS feed for system messages.

"currently watching"/"now playing" isn't working for me in the MobileApp or with SageTweet. Am I missing a plugin? (Wouldn't suprise me ) Oh, wait, are those messages only for LiveTV or for playback as well? If not the latter, then that may be my problem

In SageTweet it should work for any playback including TV, Movies or even music.

For twitter:

No such luck, even after restarting the SageTV service. I did get a "conflict" tweet (expected) and the generic "hey everybody" tweet right after the restart though. Then I started playback of a recording and nothing showed up; the only thing that has shown up is a "Remote UI(s) Connected" (is that from refreshing the MobileApp page or something else?)

Started Live TV via the guide and also no tweet for that.

The MobileApp is showing that I'm recording LiveTV via the Guide but it isn't displaying anything for "now playing".

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Edit: should add that it was working earlier. I've gone in since and set everything to YES for tweeting but very little is actually showing up...
