Combine part 1 and part 2 DVD - How?

I just got Godfather 2 on DVD, it comes on 2 DVDs (part 1 and part 2), I would like to seemlessly if possible, combine both of these DVD's into one movie, I used Nero recoder and combined part 1 with part 2, and it looks pretty good and was pretty painless. I end up with VTS_01 and VTS_02 files but when part 1 ends there is a black screen and pause as it loads the 2nd part, (I remove the menu system so my resulting movies just play) it's not a big deal, but I was hoping to remove the blank screen and stitch the 2 parts together to become one movie again.

Anyone have any ideas on what software might do this? I'm cheap so freeware or opensource is all I would want to spend.

If you already own VideoReDo, this solution won't cost you anything. If you don't already own VideoReDo, the program is a good deal for its price.

I take the VOB files from the DVD, and use VideoReDo. First, I run each VOB file through "quickfix", saving the file to an MPEG2. I then use "joiner" to combine each MPEG2 segment into large MPEG2 file.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up re-authoring with DVD-Shrink and used "Set Start/End Frames" to cut off the final few seconds off the end of part 1, I forgot mention before, there was also a "insert Disk 2" message at the end of part 1, anyway after cutting those few frames I added part 2 of the movie, turned off compression and hit backup. I ended up with a 8Gb Movie! I then used DVD-Rebuilder to re-encode the whole thing down to 4GB.

Now when I hit the part 1/part 2 break, it is seamless.

Thanks for the suggestions, I used the free one, I told how cheap I was!

Now I wish they enhance/re-release the whole Godfather series, those movies on DVD are not that high quality on the big screen.
